Year 2030: Metal slug AES sells at auction for $500000. Only known copy in existence. Has been sealed in a plastic air tight case and put into a museum.

In reality the cartridge has multiple dead ROM chips and one dead ASIC, but the cart has minor insertion marks.

Also the Metal Slug MVS prices skyrocket due to the lack of original MVS carts. They all become conversions that piggyback onto the growing price war of authentic AES carts. Everyone becomes afraid to actually play either cart because of the insane high price tag.

Unfortunately, by then the bootleg technology has advanced so much that you can actually buy and plant trees that grow carts in your own back yard.

If these carts ever do stop working, it better be after I am gone. I would think that as long as you take care of them, they can last you a lifetime. Hell I got an Atari 2600 system and games from 1978 that still work just fine.

Oh yeah, I'm aware that Bit Rot will be an increasing concern with my multi-thousand dollar game collection investment. I think that a lot of it can be fixed one way or another though but those who can do so will be really important to us. Actually it's something I'd like to get into myself. Anyone here have any good tips for how or where to start learning maybe with simple things like giving them a good cleaning, then move on to replacing components and eventually on soldering like a pro?
