I have read all of your replies and I can honestly say that each and everyone of you has a point. On one hand we have a few members who feel that SNK is the best company in the world. On the other hand we have a few members who feel that SNK should go away. My point is, are we not here to just enjoy the games?? I mean, sure, SNK NEO GEO games can cost a fortune, but no one is forcing anyone to buy them. Sure the NEO GEO is 12 years old, 2-D only, and has mainly fighting games, but all in all who cares.

What I am trying to say is we are all a member of this community because we all hold SNK and the NEO GEO very dear to our hearts. I mean, we would have to to spend so much on the games. Capcom is a very good company on its own, I love their games as well. I feel that you cannot compare the two because they are so varied in specs. Imagine if Playmore were to introduce a new game system to the public. I can almost guarantee that they would make it 3-D, not 2-D. Why? Because that is what would sell nowadays.

I do feel bad sometimes when we all fight with one another, we are a community, not enemies. We must remember what brings us here, the love we have for a very awesome system.

Just my two cents and sorry if this sounds dumb.

There's people who hate anything popular, then there's people who hate the people who hate anything popular. Then there's people who just bitch about everything, and will never be pleased.

well ill throw my two cents into the foray. all fighting games 3-d or side scrollers are all kind of the same; and yet different. respectively but to hate one kind or another is just like being racist. i mean where would americans be without it. racism molded the past and yes helped to cast this "great melting pot." as they call it but it has been romanticized to such a point that the american selective memory as i call it has come into play; to banish things that we "don't like" from our minds.
so to get to the point. games are games just that i mean i play for two hours a day every day since i was three. and have developed contempt for certain companies and have come so far as to join in the fray of the console wars. and even participated in an all out brawl over which system was better playstation or n-64 i sided with the 64. though i beat the guy i have come to an understanding that this deep seated hatred for a system that is outside of my comfort zone needed to stop. so the next day i went out and bought a playstation and breath of fire 3.(which is made by capcom) and my goal since then has been to accept all systems but games are another story.
on the day SNK closed down i heard people say things like "thank god" or "good riddance." so i'd say to them "how would you like it if square closed down you morons."well i dont know if the point got through but it was worth a shot. i've seen people play a game like capcom vs SNK choose ryu and Ken. (both ratio 2) and i'll be my classic team of kim and ken and he'll say something like eww kim. even if i lose to the guy i still know he's a big dumbface. or when i mention playing dragon force, and people say "the saturn sucked." "well to hell with you mr.closed minded".
so basically what i'm saying is that; virtua fighters, good so is tekken, doa, kof, street fighter, rival schools, aof, ss, fatal fury, distrega was even good, battle arena toshinden, or marvel super heroes. just about any fighting game is good if you want it too be. but if you go up to an arcade with an impression that you didn't come up with from past experience but was told to you by some reviwer or friend that this game sucks then you'll play it and say it sucks games are meant to be experienced fresh and new not experienced by someone else with a different up bringing and mind set someone elses opinion should not affect you in choosing a game, and if you become dependent upon that for your purchases; then that my friends is weakness in it's purest form.

It seemed that more people were addressing the "SNK vs Capcom" issue and not the general attitudes on the board. I kinda wanted to see what people though about the attitudes on the board :( .

I love the Neo for the 2D thrills that no ther system can offer. But, I also love mainstream systems for inventing genres that the Neo won't or is incapable of doing. Survival Horror and racing games are a prime example. These would be impossible on the Neo, but work beautifully on systems capable of 3D.

Only mainstream systems push those envelopes and give gamers everywhere a chance to experience something new that their beloved Neo simply can't do. There's more to games than fighting games and shooters.

Why bash when you could have them both? A far better compromise, In my opinion.

rallymaster-z

i hear you on this one. i was thinking how stupid this idea or problem was the other day. this thread left out the point you made(for the most part) and focused on tekken and small example you quoted.

i hate water cuz everyone else loves to drink it. i dont even want to be seen with it or have people tell me they like it. it just sucks.

HAHA "Rallymaster-Z", i always thought that name was funny. You called me that a long time ago. But anyway, true i only used Tekken and VF as an Example yet everybody felt the need to only talk about tekken(actually rag on tekken). Maybe i should have used another example but that was the best one i could think of. I didn't want this topic to be about tekken I just wanted to help people understand better what i was trying to explain.

Oh well at least i know how shallow some people are now. And that "Elitist" attitude totally sux.

p.s. i'm still giggling about that rallymaster-z thing.

That was brilliant! You're absolutely right!

Well Galford, that is because you were into punk, but not a punk. OK, so it sounds like a bunch of shit, and really it is kind of lame, but the idea was simple. Punk was against the mainstream, it was created to rebel against society, stadium rock, the masses, etc, etc... it was not meant to be played for profit, it was meant to be played as expression of agression and a middle finger raised to society in general. The basic idea was simple, if you were on a major, you weren't punk. You were no longer playing to the scene, you were selling an image to the masses.

This topic is way to long to get into here, but the main idea is that most people who grew up as punks became disgusted when either a band that was once part of the scene, or was created to look like a part of a scene for the main purpose of becoming a rock star and being played on MTV. Take Blink for example. Too be honest, everyone listened to Blink, Cheshire Cat was one of those records that everyone owned... and Blink is really not that different today, but people in the punk community feel like they are being exploited by a band who is selling the image of punk rock to a bunch of people who have no respect for what it stands for. Spoiled rich kids now come to the shows and dance in their new Tommy shirts... The scene is being sold as pop, and that pisses people off a great deal!

This all meant a lot to me up until about 5 or so years ago. I grew up a snotty little punk kid... Believed in all that sell out crap... Use to write a pretty popular zine, interviewed a lot of bands... Called Blink out on Damnit back in the day for the MTV video, had a long talk with the guys... hehe, predicted what was to come (even though they denyed the aligations that they were trying to be MTV darlings)... Use to care. As I grew older, it really meant less and less to me, I lost the stupid mindset... These bands have to eat, these bands have to make a living, and hell if some major is willing to finance a few fuck ups who can only play a few bar chords and can barely sing... well, then the more power to them! :) So it is against punk credo, that stuff is pretty millitant and kind of goes agains the anti conformist attitude anyway! I mean conforming to not conform is still conforming! Punk really has nothing to do with the music, it was a way of life... I guess the people who saw their way of life become a pop cultural phase kind of freaked out... rebeled. Plus the mainstream has a way of buying into something new... and the totally destroying it with over exposure, mass marketing, market whoring.... It is sad to hear a band you once really loved get turned into the TRL flavor of the minute.

For the record, just to show some of the obsurdity of this mindset, almost all of the original punkers were on majors... Germs, X, Ramones, Sex Pistols, etc, etc... So... this idea was sort of brought into play by the second wave people... The original punkers were mostly DIY, but rarely would shake off the oppertunity for money like say NoFx... ahh it doesn't matter :)

It's because Neo Fans like to bitch, I have never EVER seen another videogame scene, where people bitch, whine and flame, as much as they do in the Neo scene.

I mean hey, if I was dropping 500 to a Grand for one game, I might be a little wound up too.

I also think some Neo fans are jealous of companies like Capcom and Namco etc, cause everyone knows their games, and plays them, and no one over here even knows what a Neo Geo is, or really give a flying fuck either.

I mean I like Neo Geo, I wouldn't own all their systems except their CD if I didn't, but Neo isn't god, it has flaws, there are more sorry ass games than their are AAA games on the system, and if you aren't a hardcore fighter fan, the Neo isn't gonna have much to offer you, because it's best games are all fighters, except Metal Slug 1 (forget the rest, with their aliens, killer worms etc.).

It also doesn't help when they drop their best series's IMO like Fatal Fury (MOTWs is cool, but I'm talking more than just Terry), Samurai Shodown and AOF (hell even World Heroes).

Instead we get KOF Re-Hash 20XX every year, like a bad case of herpes that won't go away (right tora?), that we really could live without.

BTW one of the previous posters comments about people saying that Virtua Fighter is the best 3-D game just to sound hardcore is to funny, I know just what you mean. But hey I DO play them, I mean I own fucking dolls (sig), anime videos of the show, CD's, and of course the games. ;)

You know what? !!BAM!! Drift King pretty much hit the nail right on the head. He pretty much closed the topic! And you know what Drift King, I should apologize before for saying that you praised VF just to sound hardcore. I used to think thats how you were but i guess it ain't true now(from looking at your sig, and your explaination).

p.s. i know this is getting totally sidetracked but where did you get that damn AKIRA DOLL!! Akira is my best and favorite VF character, i must have that doll!! Oh yes and what all VF merchandise do you own? (am i being nosey or what?)

Edit: Other Than Virtua Project and VFDC, are there any other VF specific messageboards? I don't like the People at VFDC, they suck.
