Just borrowed this title from a friend and I forgot how great it is. Haven't played it since I sold my Dreamcast copy about a year ago. I'm having a lot of fun with it. The rolls are really different than in other versions and I think its cool. What are the codes for Iori and Kyo though? Do they have to be unlocked or something or is it a joystick input on the select screen? Are there any other secret characters? Also, does anybody happen to know the code for Kula in 2000? Thanks in advance.

I really thought Kyo and Iori were either time-released or defeat-released in '99.
I could be wrong though.

'00 Kula code is as follows:
Highlight Whip and press Start, *but do not hold it, then highlight Vanessa and again press start but *don't hold it, then Highlight Seth and again press Start again, Now highlight Maxima and press Start then on K' and press start , now the final thing is to highlight ? icon and press start then UP then Down ''and you will see Kula Appears below the *? icon in 2 secs ''

'99 Kyo & Iori:
At the Character selection screen,go to the Random Select, press and hold start then do:

For Kyo:Left,Right,Up,Left,Down,Right

For Iori:right.Left,Up,Right,Down,Left

Well, there you go....

Egads this looks difficult.

Taken from MChi's GameFAQs Shin Kyo FAQ:
I. How to Get Kyo

Kyo in the beginning of the game is not selectable. To get him
selectable, you must choose a random team (just go to the ? and let it
choose all 4 of your characters). The random team must consist of at
least 3 of the following characters: Kyo-1, Kyo-2, K, Shingo, Benimaru,
Maxima, Whip, and some other characters that I have forgotten. I'll
tell you right now, it's extremely difficult to get 3 of these
characters. You must be very lucky! After you beat a team (CPU or human
player) with the random team with the characters above, on the victory
screen where the B.A are given, there will be a code that will teach
you how to use Kyo. Kyo is now accessible. To be certain, check if
there is <K> on the bottom of the KoF logo after the short opening
demo. It's best if someone actually already got Kyo accessible so you
don't have to go through all this hard-work.

Once you have Kyo accessible, start the game like you normally would,
hold start at the ? and enter the following code: left, right, up,
left, down, right. The sun symbol (under Kyo-1) will change into Kyo.
Now just go to Kyo and select him.

This is from MChi's Iori FAQ:
I. How to access Iori

Okay, if on the bottom of the title screen, it does not have <I> there,
that means Iori is not selectable yet. To get him selectable, start the
game using a random team. The team must consist at least 3 of the
following characters: Athena, Kensou, Mary, Kasumi, King, Kim, Jhun,
and others. It's going to be random select anyway so this information
is useless! Just for your information. Once you beat a team (human or
CPU) with the required characters, there will be a code on the top of
the victory screen. Now there should be an <I> on the bottom of the
title indicating you can select Iori.

Now start the game and go to the ?. Hold start and press right, left,
up, right, down, left and Iori will appear where the crescent symbol
was (under Kyo-2).

Looks like you have to beat the team with a set roulette team, get lucky, then use the codes for those two.

Good luck.

Damn, I knew it was going to be something hard! This is why so many people say that 99 is a lousy KOF. The game plays really good though except for the strikers which I never liked much until 2000. Thanks for the codes though man, it really helped me out.

I had the same issues. I used to get the codes to work back in the day but since I got my cab and KOF99 it wont work for me either. It could be gamefaqs.

What about the dip switches? I'm sure some of them unlocked Kyo and Iori.

The unibios has a code to unlock them in MVS mode (they're already unlocked in AES mode).

Before I got the unibios, my brother and I spent like two hours in versus mode one night to unlock them the normal way. Those were the days.
