I bought the game for $175, so that blurs my judgment a bit. Let me explain, the game is cool... but for that much money not cool enough.
You fly helicopters over different terrains (cities, swamps, volcanoes, ruins, etc) and shoot down air and land dinos. The graphics are a mixed bag, some backgrounds (like the first board) look incredible, like out of an old monster movie, some, like the swamps are way to colorful and look terrible. The dinos are also a mixed bag, most of the flying ones look terrible, and especially the big bird that looks like a plastic toy. Other dinos look and are animated so good it makes you want to cry!
The next big problem with the game for a lot of people is the speed; since you are flying a helicopter the controls are sluggish, as they should be. But it never feels like you are maneuvering fast enough. There are a lot of power ups floating on screen, and two major guns to choose, a spread type and a buster type. You can also hold the fire button down for a weak, but rapid barrage of bullets to help you in tight situations.
When I first played the game I played it without the violence turned on, and safe to say I was disappointed with the dino deaths. Dinosaurs would explode in a cartoon death sequence that looked, well, stupid. Later I found the violence dip and was very happy with the more, um I am not going to say mature, how about adult version. You can shot some dinos to a bloody end that leaves just a walking skeleton!
All and all the game is not bad; it has its high points, but a lot of low points. If you thought Blazing Star was too easy, well Prehistoric Isle 2 is even easier. I think this was made for kids, with a violence option tagged for the older audience. It is not bad, but there really is no replay value, and no ending, just credits and a static screen shoot. The game can be a fun two-player shooter and the first time you see the 3D effects and the 3D rotation from intros to game play you will do a double take... but it is not Yumekobo's best. It is too bad this game is so rare, for $100 I would have been happier with it.
