From a realistic standpoint, what would your dream home be like? For me, I'd like to have a standard 2 bedroom house with a basement. I'd keep the upstairs well organized and clean with everything in place (I'm not a neat freak, but I'd sure as hell want my place to look nice).

Then, walking downstairs into the basement would almost be like a time warp to an 80's movie theater. I'd have one of those cheap jukebox clones from eBay in the corner blaring some Poison or Guns N' Roses with a couple cabs on the other side of the room. The walls would be covered with framed original 80's horror posters such as Slaughter High and Maniac.

I already have a movie theater popcorn machine that my dad got off a buddy of his (not sure if it works though) that I'd stick down there as well. To top it all off would be a 60 inch widescreen projection HDTV with a decent surround sound setup and a killer subwoofer. So, what would your dream home be like?

I'd like just any house, with a LARGE basement.

I'd have the house wired with internet(fast fast fast) a rack to hold like 3 1U's, and have 3U RAID box.

Then i'd have my house wired to a PBX, and a live, working DMS switch. (probably a DMX-100)

No joke... my dream is to own a DMS switch, and one day I will.

The upstairs would be the normal stuff, kitchen (loaded with dr pepper) and a nice comfy bed.

it would pretty much be the hotel from "The Shining"[the exact one].. and yeah i'd keep it empty as often as possible.. but would ofcourse invite friends over and have the occasional party..

and yes i'd keep it decorated exactly like in the movie, although i'd hire Clive Barker to decorate a few random rooms just to spice things up a bit.

I dont give a shit so long as its warmer than the one I'm in now.
Seriously, I came downstairs into the kitchen this morning to find that the water that had been in the kitchen sink overnight had a layer of ICE on it!
Also the pipes must have frozen over because I can't get hot water downstairs. I can get it upstairs (because the tap is in the same room as the boiler I guess), and I can get cold water downstairs, but not the hot stuff.

Oh well, despite all that I still kinda like my house, possibly for the wierd shit that happens now and again, like cows wandering into my back garden, or waking up to find some thicko college student cutting my grass - by mistake!

I'm buying my first house this May, and it's going to be hard getting a house as big as I want in the area I want, but I will find a way to do it.

I really wish I could get my neighbors house. It's only a bi-level, but MY GOD is it a huge ass bi-level!

4 Bedrooms, 2.5 bath, a large living and dining room (separate), and a eat in/full size kitchen. The bedrooms are quite large at that.

Then you head downstairs, it's got a great fireplace, room for a large ass TV with a wrap around sofa. Behind that is a nice mini-wet bar with stools. The basement spans the whole house, so to the side of the main "den" they have a pool table (with room to play). Then it goes off into a laundry room and a nice little office. There is also another small 5th bedroom/play room off to the side in the basement as well.

On top of that they've got a great Sun-room addition on the back, fully enclosed with a spa in the back. That goes out onto a HUGE low to the ground wooden deck. Coupled with an ungodly large back yard (I used to live in a coldesack, so each of the 5 houses had extra large back yards). It also has a two car garage, with an attick on top of the two garages.

It is a very very nice house, of which the basic design is pretty common in the one area where I used to live. Thing is, the other houses don't have the glass sun room addition nor the gorgeous deck in the back. The people who live there are super ungodly nice too, so it's not like I can hate/plan on killing them or anything to boot.

I just hope I can find a similarly large house w/o the additions to buy now in a nice township around here. That way as time goes on I can put on my own sun room and deck additions. It's going to be one hell of a trip but I hope I can make it by May. :)

Brown brick outside, an entirely oak interior. A subtle, perhaps modest entry way near the left-front of the house. As you go inside...to your left you'll find a spacious closet area (9ftx9ft) large enough to fit over a hundred visitors coates and shoes. On the left closet wall is a door which give way to the heated 4 car garage. Going back to the entry way we see that the living room, dining room and kitchen are one entity, spanning 60ftx60ft with a 20ft high ceiling.

We immediately see a complete bar, parallel with the left wall, a neon sign entitled Neo Geo Lovahs hangs above the numerous bottles of liqour. If you were to stand behind the bar, to the left (again, parallel with the bar) would be the first available bathroom. Simple, nothing grand. I couldn't have folks running up and down stairs loosing their lunch on the way, now can I?

Adjecent to the downstairs bathroom, on the north wall, you'll find the elevator which will take you either up or down stairs. Next to it are the conventional stairs, again wood and covered in the middle by a thin but lavish rug. And yet, next to the stairs is the hallway which leads to the backyard entry.

Moving along the north wall more, a couple stylish steps up, and we come to the kitchen. 20ft x 20ft with a matching ceiling, the kitchen consists of mostly steel appliances. Sink, stove, fridge, cabinets all steel. On the north wall of the kitchen is a large 5ftx5ft window looking out into the backyard.

The main portion of the first floor is of course the living/dining room. A series of storm winds parallel to the front entry bring light to the vast space. Step down from the kitchen and be faced with an area that contains two black leather sectionals, matching couches, love seats, and recliners, along with a glass dinner table that sits twelve. A custom 70" plasma tele (not for gamin' use) for "watching the game".

On the right (east wall), next to the television you'll find a doorway with all the appropriate decore of a theatre entrance. Velvet carpent, rope & posts, overhead marquee with a "Now Playing" notation, the whole nine. Inside you'll find three rows of three, reclinable leather loveseats. In the front row is a custom station with a built in multi-power tap, R/F, Composite, S-Video and Component inputs. A perfect, convenient place to hook up and enjoy your system of choice on a theatre screen, truely one of my deepest wishes that haunts my daydreams constantly.

...that's all for now, I still need to think about the rest of the downstairs, plus a down stairs and upstairs.

Don't mean to sound old-fashioned but my dream home would be my... old home. The one I grew up in. The one I lived my childhood days out in. The one I called home for 10 years.

I'd love nothing more but to move back, and feel the memories residing deep within those walls every day of my life. Waking up, going to work (school teacher) and returning home to play some video games or whatever.

Simple in-it?

Realistic -- yes.

Personally my dream home would be a 1200sq ft or so apartment right in downtown chicago, assuming I had the money to enjoy the nightlife there. Of course that doesn't leave much room to park my mustang but I guess I wouldn't be driving much anyways.
