1.) Constantly installing updates/installs/patches every month (RB4)
2.) Having to wait hours to update a game out of the box

People have already stated most of this, but why not.

-The lack of split screen. Just got Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles by platinum and it doesn't have local multiplayer.

-Rehashes of games, too much sequelitis.

-Input lag

-people being fine and dandy with paying for peer 2 peer garbage servers

-Consoles feeling like they are multimedia netflix bluray logo man machines instead of actual consoles

-Day 1 patches followed by an update into an update when you haven't played the game in ages. I literally put in Nintendo Land and had to do a system update, followed by another update, followed by another update to find out my save file was deleted randomly, thanks Nintendo.

-Twitch/youtube culture in general

-Obligatory flippers/resellers/johnny come lately

- 3D foul ups of 2D era titles which is almost universal failure (specifically shit control and shittier cameras, plus collect-a-thon mechanics)
- IAP/Microtransactions (and a subset, making a full game, then charging for part of it as Day1 downloads or worse hidden on the disc itself which Capcom has done)
- Required internet connections to verify you're not a scumbag on single player games of all things
- DRM (Steam to a lesser degree, but locked down games in general on closed devices)
- The LIE that you 'BUY' a game when it's digital, it's at best a lease, a long term rental that you can get kicked out of whenever
- Fanboy twats who run/develop at game companies and also in the media who act like petulant brats towards buyers and certain systems
- The vast majority of guinea pig game design, ship out a beta, let suckers pay $60 and then fix it once they start bitching
- Obtrusive trophies/achievements -- I know when I did something, I don't need a pat on the head and bragging right brownie points popping up while playing
- This generation of consoles out around 2010 or so (PS4/One specifically) being closed PCs basically, have no value other than 1st party games -- better off owning a PC
- Repeated hardware whining for system updates that go as far as block you from using online features until it is done

The last dedicated consoles that long term amused me were Dreamcast, Gamecube, and PS3 and the Sony box did most of this bullshit but had good games at least not also on PC in large enough numbers to give it a pass.

This is finger pointing only at the industry, not at the flipper/scalper subhuman garbage who have been fucking up retrogaming for at least 6 years now in force to make a buck at others expense. That stuff has driven me so far off buying most old games it ran me towards pinball and arcade machines in recent years and finding a few non-mostly abused handhelds/consoles left to enjoy. It has crushed my motivation much as I can go a week without bothering or more now.

Lack of StarFox series amiibos.

My life is not complete without Slippy Toad.
No reason for that if World of Nintendo released much better figures?!

I sometimes miss memory cards for file saves, and hate that next gen consoles force you to fill tiny hard drives with huge game files. :annoyed:

Utilising remote streaming to portable screens (tablets, phones, laptops) or PC's is a missed opportunity for local coop IMO. The main player plays on TV, and the coop partner plays on another device via streaming from a single machine and game copy. I understand it will very tasking on the machine, but I would sacrifice the graphics for this experience, and prefer it that way over split screen gameplay.

Another missed opportunity is using motion controllers as an aiming gun in 3rd person shooting games. This control scheme was so awesome in RE4 Wii and I'm bummed that it died with the trend.

I somewhat agree but western developers are keeping it alive. I don't know if you noticed but the games coming out of Japan lately aren't that great anymore.

Japan went from shit like this:

Japanese are no longer the dominating great game makers they once were.

All their shooters have pilots that are 12 years old and some kind of godawful lolita, and some fucking "deep" scoring mechanic.

How hard is it to put a fucking spaceship in space? I don't want to ride a bug or fly with ghey fairy wings

Raiden 1 & 2, Viper, Donpachi, DDP, Truxton 1 & 2... all great, straightforward shooters... IN SPACE.

You shoot shit and get points, and you don't have to keep track of some invisible "rank" or some shit like that.

This "keeping it alive" made me grumpy -- i.e. I don't play it, so it's dead, indeed. In my blunt and un-humble opinion, Japanese games were lolitalized from the get-go, just look at the PC-88/91 series' library. It's like the internet, 90% is pure porn.

Mario & Co. was just a westernized face of the Nippon, so it could actually pass the expurgation of Volsteadian successors and, against better judgement, it always was the Gaijin, who kept it alive. The Japanese downright stole their intellectual property, added their own deranged charm to it and out came... the greatest period in video games.

It's still the same principle, you have GTA, which I never cared to play anyway, and there's the Japanese clone: Yakuza. While the rest of the "gaming world" fap in Ludendorff, North Yankton, I rather go in an orderly fashion to a jerk-off bar and use to call my terrestrial sweet-sour Chicken... Nugget.

As Vince would put it: It's the little differences.

There's not enough pick up and play games these days for my liking.

Best example is first party Nintendo stuff...a lot of it you can just pick up and play without real thought of, "Where am I in this game? Where did I leave off? I forget the controls."

I'd like to see more arcade-style games.

Other things that have made me grumpy in no order:

-Season passes and planned DLC (I had no issue with expansion packs for PC games back in the day as they were generally thought out, and didn't feel like a guarantee with every release)
-Capcom in particular shitting the bed and not doing enough arcade style titles for current consoles in spite of the abundance of great IP's that they keep locked away in their vault. Where's a new Final Fight, Ghosts 'N Goblins, and so on?
-Japanese devs at large becoming lazy fucks (Capcom, Namco, Sega) or simply choosing to stop making games (Konami)
-Not getting Ridge Racer 8
-Microsoft's moving away from releasing old arcade titles on XBL
-The insane hype on big budget titles instead of taking the From Software approach.
-Collector game market
-Endless YouTube channels of idiots offering their shitty hot fucking takes on games
-Twitch, watching other people play video games rather than play games yourself? I get if you want to get an idea for the gameplay in obscure games, but wasting time watching others play games? lol
-The death of turn-based JRPG's. I don't like most of the new modern combat systems.

The closest we got was the Vita release... Which makes you pay for most of the game through DLC.

But it gives you the Hornet from Daytona.

Yes, and while I did pay for it because I love Ridge Racer, not having a console release of a legit Ridge Racer installment since 6 and 7 both came out early in the respective X360/PS3 life cycles is inexcusable. Ridge Racer Unbound was horseshit and had nothing to do with Ridge Racer as we know it. I want Ridge Racer 8 with 60fps/1080p and MANY tracks.

I visited my teenage cousin not too long ago. I asked him about what games he was playing and stuff, and he told me he doesn't have time to play games because he's always catching on his favorite YouTube/Twitch channels... which are Let's Plays, primarily...

I will never understand choosing game footage over game play, but that's what today's... post-millenials (?) are growing up with as their primary source of entertainment. Soon games will only sell like a dozen copies, only for the handful of people that will play them for everybody else.

You do have a point but not really with those pictures. Those first two are highly westernized pieces of art (great games). I can't speak for the modern selection of games you chose, but that art and direction is DEFINITELY not new in essence. The Japanese have been pumping out adolescent porn magical girl gimmicks since the 80s. Its always been right there beside the good games designed to be sold to manly men/boys.

That Bombergirl game looks legitimately cute. I'm not sure how I feel about ditching Bomberman for it but its definitely fucking better and more appropriate than that Bomberman shit they pulled on the Xbox 360. that was one of the worst and most offensive cases of westernization I've ever seen especially because BB-Daman/Bomberman was one of my most adored cute little character & mascot as a kid.

One thing I did notice (and the reason I understand what you mean) is the flood of NIS games that seem to be cookie cutter and churned out. I tried to play a few Hyperdimension/Hyperdevotion games and I wasn't happy with it. I honestly may have if they didn't have a really bad design behind them and didn't break the 4th wall every minute reminding me that I'm playing a cheapo parody game.

So a mode that most people play once is a good replacement for the mode most people use when offline? If some dude on his free time can make an Arcade Mode mod in his free time why can't Capcom? Either they really don't give a fuck about the gamers that make up a large percent of players of the game, or they can't do anything because Dimps disbanded from SFV a while ago and all that's going on there now is minor shit like implementing DLC or minor balance changes. Either option I see is honestly kinda fucked up.

Yes the loli shit has been around for ages, I'm not saying that, what I am saying is it has gone to infect even the mainstream titles now and just about everything they release has some sort of loli flair to it because Japanese men are fixated with this shit now more than ever.

The 2nd picture is DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu. DoDonPachi went from this

Spoiler:

DoDonpachi_InstructionCard.jpg

donpachi02.png

To that loli shit you see there. It's now seen in major titles and RPGs, look at the main cast of Final Fantasy 15, they all look like they came out of some fucking night club and are exploring the wilderness and no one else in the world dresses or has a hair style even remote to theirs.

Yes some of that art is highly westernized but that's what the Japanese did, look at all the Capcom arcade flyers from the 80s and 90s, Taito's, Konami's, that was a great era of creativity. Even their PC98 and PC88 box art was amazing. Now it's just fucking little girls galore.
