I've been playing
Neo CD
RB2
KoF99
Xbox
Pure Pinball and a bit of Capcom Classics
PS2
Raiden III
RE4
So, this is the long-awaited PS2 release of one of the best current-gen games. I've almost completed my first run (only Saddler is left to kill)... well, what can I say, playing the PS2 version after completing RE4 GC six times almost feels like watching a VHS copy of a movie on DVD you know inside-out. There's less detail and lightening isn't quite the same... this is most notable at the water fall section shortly after you've beaten the lake monster, the missing environment effects create a different atmosphere than on GC. If you look up into the night sky, it's almost like you'd poke a hole in a dark blanket... looks quite lifeless.
Someone (genjiglove?) mentioned that it would be harder than the Cube original... well, there seems to be less ammo on normal diff., I ran out of ammo for all weapons twice in a row, that's something which never happened in the GC version, not even during my first run.
Gameplay is more or less the same... took me a while to find a useable key assignment for the dual shock tho, at first I accidentally triggered the map display all the time when I wanted to open my inventory... aiming also seems a bit more accurate with the Cube controller, I prefer its analogue sticks over the Sony ones, they're much more responsive.
Dunno about pricing of RE4 PS2 in other countries, but over here the PS2 version costs almost 60 Euros while you could get a Cube + RE4 pack for 99 Euros or less... ah well.
For someone who already has the Cube version, buying the PS2 port seems a bit pointless... haven't unlocked the PS2-exclusive minigame yet, but I doubt that alone is worth spending lots of money for.... let's see.
Anyway, it's a decent port that still has the excellent playability of the Cube version, but when it comes to graphical splendour and atmosphere, the Cube beats the PS2 to the ground.
