Last week I've been playing:
Neo
KoF2k1
Well, basically it's all about NW for me at the moment, but I always manage to squeeze in a round of 2k1 or two every week... still one of my fave KoFs.
PS2
Taito Memories Vol. 1
Very cool collection, specially for fans of Taito shmups. Among lots of arcade gems from 1978 to the late 90s like Bubble Bobble, Rastan Saga or Elevator Action Returns, you'll get Space Invaders, Space Invaders DX, Metal Black, Darius Gaiden, Majestic Twelve and Grid Seeker, Vol. 2 will come up with Rayforce (a.k.a. Layer Section, I'll buy the 2nd volume for this one alone), Gekirindan, G-Darius, etc.
On the downside, there's no Tate mode for vertical shmups like Grid Seeker or Majestic Twelve, it would have been the icing on the cake to play these games the way they were meant to be played... given that 90% of all Japanese PS2 shmup releases have Tate, it's beyond me why Taito chose to break with this tradition right for this otherwise excellent collection.
KoF NW
Still playing it like mad. Whoever said that SNKP couldn't make decent games - you have been proven so damn wrong.
Shinobi
Late to the party with this one here, but better late than never I guess... controls are very intuitive, took me less than two minutes to feel at home with it. It's 3D, but Sega managed to capture a bit of the old Shinobi spirit with this new version, unlike other 3D adaptions of old 2D game series like Castlevania or the unholy Contra - Legacy of War on PSX... shudder... The game also offers a nice challenge so far, I quickly advanced to level 3 but from then on you really have to be on your toes.
Except for the usual side-effects of 2D-to-3D translations, the most notable gameplay difference between the old Shinobis and the new one is the focus on sword attacks. The classic games had an almost shooter-esque theme while 3D Shinobi has an enhanced weapon attack system with lots of cool combo options which reminds me of Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. You can jump/climb/run on walls, they've also added a ninja vanish rushing move.
Anyone else still playing it?
