Because any mild criticism of the entertainment people like inspires this enraged reaction. I don't get it. One has to assume you guys have a lot of anger inside

You assume that because people tell you that you don't know what you're talking about, and they are correct?

lol. wow.

No, motherfucker, you are that kid on the counterstrike server and what you just did is what people like to call a 'Freudian Slip'.

I don't know why you insist on continuing to use this strawman. To 'save face?' Jesus dude, it's just the internet. Who cares if people like you?

What I said was that I thought the premise was stupid. I've read the premise (that Nixon is still president and yada yada) and formed an opinion on it. I'm afraid I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to my own opinions.

Yeah, the Nixon is President is the main part of the story. Yep.

I'll let you have that one so we can stop this silly derail that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Watchmen movie - LET'S DISCUSS.

Anyone else amused by the fact that comic books are now "graphic novels?" No one wants to be perceived as low-brow. I submit that we rename hamburgers "Bovine nutritionary supplements"

How typical. Did you make it to the second half of my post? I doubt it.

lol yes Nixon is the focal point of the story. That would be your wet dream right?

edit: I'm glad you compared yourself to the worst character in the movie (Walter). I love the character, don't get me wrong, his faggotry is brilliantly realized. But I couldn't hang out with him in real life for more than 5 minutes. Good job!

Now there actually is an IMAX screen at a theater right near my house, very tempted to see it on there, but I'm sure I'd have to get there 90 minutes early, at least, to have decent seats, and then I'd still have to deal with a ridiculously crowded theater, regardless of the fact that I'm going at midday.

Theater doesn't do online tickets, even (seems more and more theaters are doing this, what the fuck?!).

So I'll make due with the usual size screen, I'm sure it will still be enough to impress.

I assumed they all did by now...

I remember moving to Minneapolis from LA in 2002 and being surprised they weren't like that here (they all adapted within a few years)

They've been calling them graphic novels for years.

I'm looking forward to it, but have no idea when I'll get the chance. Maybe next weekend.

Yeah, the term "graphic novel" is usually only used to describe comics that are structured like novels, as opposed to the regular monthly variety, which are still called "comics."

Trades are generally just a collection of issues, for example the Watchmen trade is just all 12 issues. Some people prefer to call them graphic novels for whatever reason.

I suppose if you wanted to split hairs you could call a book that was designed to be a stand alone story instead of a collection of serialized books a graphic novel but its easier to just call them all comics if you ask me.

Careful with Ebert: he tends to give comic book movies big reviews because he was a self-admitted comic book geek in the 60s and 70s. He gave the first Hellboy a stellar review and it was meh (I liked the sequel, though).

I love the 1st and thought the 2nd was meh

As soon as I posted that I realized it reads backwards- I meant that more and more theaters around here don't do online ticketing anymore. The two biggest theaters near me don't do it at all.

Weird. Makes zero sense to me.

Not even via Fandango?

No, not at all. I use Fandango to find show times, but then just go over to the theater to buy tickets early, can't get them online no matter the method.

Going to see it tonight at midnight with some friends at the IMAX near my house, then off to work for a training class. Haven't been to a midnight showing in years, hopefully I'm up for it.

yeah, that's exactly what i meant.
it's what my old boss told me, and he used to own his own comic store, so that's what i do.

Just watched the trailer, is this supposed to look interesting or something? I guess I'm pretty sick of comic book/cartoon based movies to be honest, so that doesn't help much.

How about these creative minds in the ol' movie making world get back to being creative and doing something shocking like making totally new movies?

Going to wait until next week, let they hype die off a bit then I'm going to see it at the new IMAX theater. I finally read Watchmen during Christmas break and loved it and can't wait to see it.

Only applicable if you take the contents of a "hamburger" and rearrange it into something that would deserve a name like "B.N.S."

Nothing wrong with calling it a comic though.
But you can't really to compare it to shit like batman or spiderman when there is hardly any crimefighting/heroics/archvillians/etc.
The Watchmen isn't really character-centric either, now that I think about it. The whole thing is more about "us" than it is about "them". It's about ideas, philosophies, and everyday struggles in the world being acted out by dysfunctional "superheroes" in goofy costumes.

I'll grant you the plot isn't mindblowing or anything, but I'll be damned if it isn't a little too DEEP to be written off as just another comic book either.

Anyway if you want to make an educated judgment call on this comic(lol) there's a cool motion comic that just came out where all 12 issues are scanned, narrated, and animated....it might just change your mind. Or maybe not.

Who cares, really.

Most every movie ever made is based off of source material. It's not like this is a remake or something. They've been trying to make it for years apparently.

Loved the Watchmen book. I used to have a "smiley" face button back when I was in HS.

Loved 300.

Just watched the trailer, is this supposed to look interesting or something?

But yeah, as soon as I saw the trailer (in a movie theater, no less) I thought, uh oh, this doesn't seem interesting at all.

I'm more than willing to give this film a chance, but the trailer just did not get me hyped up for it.
