the more you play it the more it reveals, thats what makes it so good. While I liked it when I first got it, it took some time to really marinate and reveal its full potential. I gotta say though, the animation is great. Lots of attention to fine details that might normally go unnoticed.

Bill let me know if you want me to post some pics up if you aint got time, been meaning to take some pics anyways for myself.

*Its like "Survival Mode", you have to last on one energy bar for your entire credit.

*Its real pretty, but the animation is bland. It looks like a Playstation port.

All that and its just sort of clunky, the Super system sucks, and its not much fun to play. I wanted to love this game, believe me...but there's a reason Capcom never ported this.

Sounds like you don't have anything against the game itself... just that you like other types of fighters. Why is only 4 playable characters a bad thing? The same can be said about the energy bar comment. I'd really like to see some psx games push the colors Warzard does. What sucks about the super system other than saying it sucks? My favorite fighter doesn't even have supers, and there's only 1 damn character... two if you consider his backwards jumpkicking alter-ego with the teil karate gi :p

I had plenty of negative things to say about Warzard until I got to open it up a *little* bit. It's a game that rewards you with little details over time - a page from the RPG world and done correctly for once. I can't wait to experience more of the great things I've heard about.

Well you conveniently chopped up my post, omitting some things I disliked about Warzard...but whatever. You apparently have spent some time with it, so going into the orb Super system is sort of pointless.

I gave the game a bunch of credits, used every character, and didn't like it. Keep in mind that I was basically on an arcade tour of Tokyo and I saw Warzard exactly once, at Shibuya Kaikan, and it wasn't a vs. cab so apparently no one in Tokyo likes it, either.

It's not always you need to leave an entire quote... just leave in what you're referencing like above. Maybe one of your other statements was valid, and needed no retort. Maybe another was completely wrong, but you acknowledged you may be incorrect.

I was challenging statements that were not impartial or lacked backing. Nothing was taken out of context.

For instance, it's a fact that there are 4 playable characters, but there is no need for a negative connotation. A short roster allows for balanced gameplay and an intimate gameplay experience where your skills develop along with your character's gained abilities. Why must we yield any amount of gameplay flaws if the rosters are big enough? Quantity over quality. We're suckers for that.

PS - sometimes the Japanese are wrong. All of them.

In Defense of Warzard

#28 - Nobody's attacking you here. You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm sorry the game let you down.
I would like to explain a few things in response to your comments that might even persuade you to give it another try.

*There's only four playable chara, and only Makuro is any good.

- Actually, all four characters have very different play styles. They are all good, just in dfferent ways.
Leo - Strong offence. High defence. Excellent angles and priority. The abilitly to switch weapons.
Mukuro - Extreme agility. Easy combos. Many, many supers.
Tao - Compact and controllable with good offence. Easy to pick up.
Tabasa - Highly technical. Lots of supers. Lots of good angles. Difficult to learn in comparison, but good for those who want to show off.
Please keep in mind that when you start the game, the characters are like little babies, as you level-up, they grow in many ways, such as new moves, new weapons, higher defence, offense, etc. Also keep in mind that as you level-up, so do the enemies. Most enemies have moves they don't show until the higher levels. There are 32 levels.

*Its like "Survival Mode", you have to last on one energy bar for your entire credit.

- I enjoy the challenge of trying to beat the game on one lifebar. The better you do, the more life you get back at the end of each round. Also, treasure chests appear with food during the match, which can make for some interesting situations.

*Every opponent is like Hulk in the Vs. series, where they don't recoil from your attacks. They just "take" them and can counter at any second, so comboing is useless. You're better off hitting a fierce attack, backing off, repeat ad nauseam...

- While this "Hulk-ism" happens a lot, you just need to know the right combo starters AND when to stop mid-combo, counter attack, and then start comboing again from the counter. When you learn the counter (press any punch and kick of the same strength, then :back: :downb:  and various buttons depending on the character/level, then you can really put the pressure on enemies, big time.

*Its real pretty, but the animation is bland. It looks like a Playstation port.

- The game is 11 years old. If we played it when it came out in 1996, we'd likely crap our pants. Playstation was still going strong in 96, and I can't think of any 2D game on the system that looks as good.

*As far as I could tell, only Leo can do the Fatalities, and his is just a +C attack, one of his standard Specials, so doing it is nothing fancy.

- Tao is the only character I haven't seen fatalities with, and I haven't really explored her yet. There is a lot you haven't seen, such as tearing out hearts and so on.

All that and its just sort of clunky, the Super system sucks, and its not much fun to play. I wanted to love this game, believe me...but there's a reason Capcom never ported this.

- For those that don't know about the super system: You start the game with two "Orbs". They are like your super bars. Throughout the match, Orbs are given out, generously, by treasure chests that appear. You can hold three at a time. There are five different types, each with different hit patterns and elemental properties. Heaven (maybe you want to call it earth, I don't know), Poison, Lighting, Fire, Ice, Wind. Press the Start button to chage the property of the next orb in line, this is very important. You can perform :hcb: and all punches to do your super. But wait; there's more: Each character has moves that you can do a powered-up version of, using an orb. Sooo . . . you're fighting Nool, he's weak against fire, you switch your next orb to fire, and end your combo with a powered-up version of your special that does fire damage. You follow me? It's all about trying to reach that orb that is about to disappear on the other side of the enemy, so you can pull off that combo and win by the skin of your teeth. It's fun, and different. But if you don't like it, that's fine too.
There are plenty of games that people rave about, but do nothing for me.
I guess this is the kind of game you can't judge by playing once, or even a few times.

Warzard may not be your thing, and that's cool.
But it might be worth a second look.

AOF

"PS - sometimes the Japanese are wrong. All of them." Funniest/truest thing I've ever heard.
