Just got my original launch GC out of storage and it’s no longer reading discs. It worked great when put away so it seems most likely some caps have gone bad. I’m looking for someone who can recap my console, and of course I’ll pay for your time, parts, shipping, etc. If you can help or know someone who can, let me know. Thanks!

Adjusting the pot would probably fix it. If it fixes it but then as it warms up it gets worse it needs a recap. It is becoming more prevalent since the disc drive tends to run hot + being over 20 years old. The mounting holes tend to become brittle too due to the heat as nintendo though it was a great idea to use plastic threads.
Thankfully disc drives+board are switchable between all versions. Not all mounting points will line up on the donor if its a dol-001 vs 101.
Killed my first one though on phantasy star online though piping up and down to respawn rare monsters. Since sega sucked at putting data tracks next to each other each time I went up to Pioneer 1 to Ragol it would seek from one end of the disc to another.
Going to have to use your google-fu to find a modder. I know shmups.com had a few. Most faggers here barely play games let alone can solder a battery in. For the price of a recap and sending it out probably best to buy a new gamecube.

Can also have the best of both worlds if you want. Install picoboot so you can have gameboy interface automatically/swiss and use a SD2SP2. Real nice having swiss be like that for genuine games that don't have 480p.
Kinda surprised gc loader is in stock. For the longest times it always been out.
For the price/ease of access I think its best to just softmod a wii. Only real reason to stick with a gamecube is for slightly higher fidelity and gba player imo.

Yeah my OG Master System needed a recap along with fixing a loose solder joint. Consoles honestly just age over time even if you do your best to take care of them. I still need to look into doing an FM Sound mod on that damn thing.
