The size differentials sound really interesting, I'm looking quite forward to seeing and getting used to that. I can't believe that Lion is taller, though- he's most effective when played very "low," at least IMO, and being taller might take him into hit range on some moves that used to whiff. Makes for another interesting variable to consider when playing, though, so I'll take it.

El Blaze is pretty short actually. I noticed it last night when fighting him with Lau.

Yeah, finally got the chance to play since I've been home and it's pretty sick! All text and voice is in english too. Don't like using the dpad though...

I noticed that as well when fighting him as Jeff.

I got my yesterday as well and I enjoy playing but...

Something seems...weird... maybe because I haven't played VF in some time or something but it just seems a bit strange. Anyway, It's still good stuff. I'm impressed with all of the stages and the fact that each character has 4 different outfits. Can't wait to spend some more time with this tonight. My only gripe graphically is that most characters look so plastic! I haven't noticed this so much with the girls (mostly because they're covered up) but with characters like Jeff and Wolf they almost like those army men characters. I think they were going for a sweaty look but who knows. Also is it just my TV, in Quest mode the loading screen for a fight seems to have the sides cut off. I've noticed this with some games on both systems(PS3, 360) but it only seems to effect those games. For example PGR3 has the right side of the screen cut off but every other game I have looks fine. On PS3 its VF but oddly enough when I was running component cables playing Tekken: DR the top of the screen was cut, but now that i'm running HDMI it's fine. Weird stuff...

Either way, the action is still good I just need to practice my combos. Jeff's voice is pretty terrible but he seems MUCH more brutal this time. Oh yeah, so far I haven't seen ANYTHING that I haven't been able to read so it must look at the system language settings. All I need now is a stick...

Maybe it's me, but did anyone else notice that the 10 Anniv. game is basically the same thing from Evo?

Well, if Jeff had a good voice, it wouldn't be quite Virtua Fighter, wouldn't it?

I mean, he is the one that coined the phrase:

"I------------WIN!!!!!"

Many of the characters in that game have bad voices, come to think of it- when Lion says "I don't make it a habit to fight the elderly," damn, that's some rather gay shit right there.

Well. Back when that game first came out, I actually liked that line. I guess you can say, the lines haven't aged well.

Still. Any neat in-depth comments as to how the characters are, this year, are welcome. I'm pretty darn familiar with the little VF specifics, so don't be afraid to mention them.

I think it's more the voice he says it in, I guess. He just sounds so incredibly, well, gay.

I used to beat people with him, wait 'til he'd say the line, then say out loud "that's my little poofter."

Very macho of me, I know.

Hooked on this game. Really like it.

As for the visuals, generally I like them, but to this day I hate Sarah's standard blue costume. It has always looked ass, and the more high-res the game gets, the worse it looks. Just change it Sega...

Slowly building my repertoire with Lau, but I find if I try to remember too many new moves then my whole fighting strategy just falls apart :emb:

Quest Mode is really well done, and I'm spending a lot of time on it. Beat my first tournament last night. I like the way you can have one challenger come in and be a walkover, then the next player kick your ass.

Anyone know what you have to achieve to unlock the extra costumes? Is it tied to those orange globes you win? Haven't really looked at the instruction manual yet...

They have this in an arcade about a 10 minute walk away from where I live. I'm getting the itch to go and see how well I would hold up there...

Time for some action. Now Sega just has to get their shit together, so I can get my VSHG shipped out soon. :blow_top:

Saw this over at Kotaku yesterday (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/virtual-fighter-5/japan-mehs-virtua-fighter-5-235276.php).

Still don't quite understand why it's not selling well, even on the PS3. From the article, it sounds like VF4 didn't sell well on PS2 either.

Any ideas? Personally I'm waiting for the 360 version anyway so I can be patient. :)
I'd say the article may be right about the lack of online hurting it, though I still think most VF players wouldn't want to play online, anyway.

I also think it's not helping that the PS3 is getting its ass handed to it in Japan by the Wii. Doesn't make me think any new title, short of DMC4 or MGS4, is going to create much of a stir.

Not having online is a pretty stupid move.

I understand the purist perspective, but if you're scared that lag will make baby Jesus cry then just don't fucking play online.

The article is pretty meaningless without some context - say, what percentage of PS 3 owners bought the game? Without some numbers, you could just chalk it up to the fact that the PS 3 isn't selling worth a shit.

Anyway, I'll probably still grab one once I get some cash flowin' again.

Sega didn't put online into the game deliberately because they knew it would destroy the game in the arcades, which is still raking in the cash (maybe not so much for Sega at this point, but it would not make arcade owners happy, and Sega do not want to annoy them for VF6 is a sure thing).

As for it not selling well, I'll wait and see what the sales figures say rather than relying on Kotaku (most of their articles are bullshit).

By the way, anyone thinking about buying the VSHG may want to wait, as there is a report on Famitsu that there is a possible problem with it where it doesn't register commands for short periods.

Damn, thanks for the link. I was going to order one next week but maybe I'll get the HRAP3 instead.

Glad you saw it in time. Returning an imported stick can't be much fun.

I have the HRAP3 and really like it. Compared to the HRAP2 it is quite a bit lighter, so good for people that use it on their lap (like me).

vf4 sold 500,000 or so.

it and evo sold alot less than sega was expecting coz for years the game was in bargain bins in huge amounts over here. still 50k is good.

the biggest selling game in japan on ps3 is rr7 from what i've seen on vgcharts with 130,000 sales... this game will be lucky to do 250-300,000 considering the amount of machines installed over here.

I'm getting the US version just to support the local VF5 cause, and I was wondering if anybody want to part with their VF5 10th Anniversary Bonus Disc for a fair price ?

Let me know via PM

PS: Yes I know its already available in VF4 Evo.

Well, I only managed about 20 or 25 minutes of play time between dinner and Randori, but I'm in love, so far. Feels refined in all the right places, I'm really liking the proportion differentials, and the graphics are gorgeous, though they certainly don't look like something that couldn't easily be done on 360 (as in, I'm sure the port will be identical).

Really nice, at first blush, and Lion's voice is still fantastic, too.

I played the game on my friend's ps3, and quite frankly, i hate the load times. They were instant in the arcade version but are lenghty for the PS3. The game is also not much different from VF4 evo as far as moves are concerned. It has the same feel with a few tweaks here and there. Even the announcer and the sound effects are the same. The graphics are rougher and pixelated when compared to the arcade version's lush graphics. The water effects in the beach stage in particular was toned from the arcade version. They look flatter and wave animations are weaker when compared to the arcade version. The sparkling ripples of the waves are also less stellar. The port is definately not a perfect port.

1080p looks very weird with some corners cut off. I don't think it's native, probably upscaled. 720p is definately better from what I see. Hopefully the X360 version will be better with online play and based on version C. They better improve the load times and the graphics for the 360 version. I have confidence since the 360 port will be handled by AM 2 themselves unlike the PS3 port.

Did he put the game on the hard drive? RR7 loaded slow too, until you did that.

Weird thing my PS3 is doing on VF5 now: when I first loaded all the game data to the system and fired it up, the game ran in 1080i, as I understood the system was supposed to do (pick the highest possible resolution supported by the display, automatically). Then, I went back to play it a bit more later, and it does the PS3 dashboard in 1080i, but then switches over to 720p for the game, which I don't like as much.

I tried changing the auto-select resolutions option, nothing.

Anyone else having that happen?

Did you deselect the 720p in custom settings of the dashboard video output? If I have 480p 720p and 1080i selected, every time I play VF5 it defaults to720p. Just take out the 720p in custom settings and VF5 will display in 1080i.
