Speaking of gay, Earthlings is only the 2nd most gay place I’ve seen today. A mate and I saw the Prodigy in Newcastle tonight (they are still fantastic live but RIP Keith). We don’t know Newcastle very well so we went to the pub closest to the gig arena, it‘s called “the eagle”.

Jesus fucking christ to call it a gay bar is to do gay bars a disservice. It had a guy in pink bdsm serving drinks, a calendar with naked Henry Cavil with a 10 inch dick beside the packets of crisps, a sign that said “the only unnatural sex is the sex you can’t enjoy”, and a downstairs room which we didn’t venture into which said “MEN ONLY” and “NO PHOTOGRAPHS”. At one point the pink bdsm guy got a box of tissues and headed downstairs. I can only assume they have rolling films of gay porn down there and you can maybe give your cinema buddies a helping hand but I cannot confirm this.

On the plus side, a pint of Carling was only £5 so we had a round then left.

And also, the Prodigy where fucking excellent and not at all gay.

I once dated a girl (briefly) who was vegetarian and wouldn’t eat a slice of pizza if the pizza plate at one time had a slice of pepperoni pizza on it at any time even if the plate was throughly washed. She was insufferable about things. How the hell was she supposed to know if it did or not, I don’t remember how she ate beyond that.

I've done the vegan thing twice in my life. First time was for a girl, second time was because I went on a weird health kick after my dad had been diagnosed with cancer. Neither phase lasted more than about a year.

Honestly, it's not that bad. The self-righteous "I'm saving teh planet!" vegans definitely give it a bad rap, and fuck them for being jagoffs anyways. The only real downside IMO is that actual real food (read: not super processed junk, and yes a lot of those veggie/vegan frozen dinners are just that) is expensive and I found it difficult to keep my diet varied while excluding animal products.

At the end of the day it's just a matter of personal choice. The "Noooo! Vegan bad!" people are just as obnoxious as the PETA crowd.

Some people just prefer it and don't want to eat meat and cheese. Some have health issues and eating veggie/vegan gives them a better quality of life. Some are just boring douchebags that get off on moral grandstanding. I've never understood the latter. Animals eat other animals all the time. Big deal. Get a real personality.

For me being vegetarian, my health necessitates it. More than anything though, i just dont give a fuck about food. Does it taste good? Yeah? So fucking what.
It doesn’t get me high, it is expensive, annoying to seek out, time consuming to prepare- i would be just fine if i just never had to eat. Food is a pain in my ass, sometimes literally too, thus the whole vegetarian thing to fix my ulcerative colitis.
Food is gay. Food industry is gay. Just give me a beer.

Vegans saying they are saving the world because animals produce much more Co2 I find are a bit delusional - at least in Scotland. How is drinking almond milk which is flown in from Mediterranean counties better for the planet than cows milk from 30 miles away. I’m a little sensitive when some vegans bring up factory farming because I know we don’t have that in Scotland and animal welfare standards are very, very high here (I used to work for the Government in the agricultural sector).

That said, of course I don’t mind people making their own choices - you can wear pink bdsm gear and eat that moongbean omelette all you want. Just don’t try convert me.

I suspect I’ve met many vegans who don’t go on about it and who are totally fine and don’t have it as their main topic of conversation. But the ones that do tend to be annoying pricks. I’d like to say they grow out of it but sadly I’ve been spoken down to like I’m a war criminal from a vegan who was in his 60s.

One of the ways I made it in Japan, was eating mock meat dishes (monk and nun food). Not ultra processed, super delicious and healthy.

Seitan and tofu ‘spare ribs’ (with a fried taro stick as the bone) can have you wylin’ out just like Bonk in Bonk’s adventure, when he eats the meat.

"Delusional" is a weird choice. You're ignoring a lot of factors here. Even local cow's milk is far more resource intensive than milk alternatives that are shipped in, even when including freight, retail, and packaging. Almond milk is almost never air freighted; it's a heavy, water-based food with a slow expiration. Feeding (they eat over 90 lbs of food and 35 gallons of water daily) and drugging a cow – and providing it with land (cows require at least 900% more land than crops that are used to create plant based milk) – take a lot more than growing and smashing up almonds.

Some say we got our big brains from eating animal proteins and thats always made sense to me. Personally if I don't eat meat for awhile I feel like shit but I also try my best to avoid eating garbage meat but I do slip every once in awhile. We lost all our respect for the natural world a long time ago and it will fuck us all eventually.

@fake I’m far too lazy to dig out all the stats but cows in Scotland are grass fed in warm months, hay fed in winter months, it rains all the time (we export drinking water) so the water usage point is really moot and 65% of the total landmass in Scotland is agricultural. Cow milk is a perfectly sustainable choice here.

Of course, your welcome to disagree, debate is good and healthy. I do take your point almonds are likely road transported because they have a long shelf life.

What I do not like - and these are the people I find delusional - is when someone watches a vegan documentary probably filmed or targeted for a USA audience and they spout out a bunch of crap over here about animal cruelty, water usage and sustainability without a single clue about their local geographic region and factors.

Eh, I bounced around vegetarian or pescatarian for the better part of 30 years. I was vegan for about 5 years recently. Hadn't had beef at all since around 1994.

Recently felt the cravings for beef, which I always hated. I've introduced beef back into the diet every so often.

None of it matters. Listen to your body, if it needs something, give it to it.

Nothing matters.

I agree that Scotland does a much better job than most other places. But everything I've read states that dairy farming is significantly worse than producing or importing milk alternatives, even in Scotland.
