Awesome. Was beginning to wonder since the JP one came out a long time ago.
Great news for portable fans stateside.

DQV and VI finally coming to the States is no small matter.

Fuck yes, sign me up. I was wondering if these were ever gonna come out here (apparently they're bringing V and VI over as well?).

Now, where the hell is DQIX? They announced it was gonna be on DS like 2 years ago or something, then nary a peep. Curiouser and curiouser.

Yes, DQ V and VI is really amazing news...first time EVER seen on these shores, and they're both fucking excellent games. I'm pumped for those as I have the Japanese version of DQIV and it's a really clean, well-done remake. The animation in the enemy sprites and music is really, really good.

Gonna re-edit the title to reflect what a big deal that is.

BTW, I have no fucking clue about DQIX. That's been a very quiet subject for a long-ass time now. I know the decision to make it an action-RPG as it was originally announced was incredibly controversial in all the Japanese game mags, so much so that the resulting backlash caused Squeenix to back off and change the battle system back to the traditional turn-based one. Perhaps that's what's causing the crazy delay.

Hell yes, I am so tired of looking longingly at the Jpn releases sitting on the shelf here, refusing to buy them because I can't read them. Same goes for FFIV, but now that all of these titles are getting US releases I can have something to look forward to on the DS front.

Day one for sure.

Edit: What?! Not until Sep.?! Shitty. I was hoping for a summer release.

I read something today that said it's supposed to be out on Nov. 20, but that's probably Japan.

But count me grateful they're sticking to the old format, for sure. I like a progressive RPG as much as the next guy, but I think they ought to save that stuff for FF. Dragon Quest has always been about being old-school, seems like a bad idea to mess with it now if you ask me.

Either way, these games take me forever to beat, so I don't mind if DQIX comes later rather than sooner anyways, 'cause I'll probably still be busy with the remakes.

Awesome news!

I've been spending the last two weeks playing DQ8 for the first time (despite having owned it since launch... yeah). So far it's been a blast. Lots of humor, great characters, and a really impressive orchestral soundtrack.

Is DQ7 any good, by the way? I was never much of a Dragon Quest fan in my youth, so I passed up on that one when it was released on PlayStation.

DQVII is also good, but on the heels of the amazing DQVIII, you may find it massively underwhelming. Maybe play the upcoming DS titles, then go there. It may take you that long to beat DQVIII as it is, I think I finished at 96 hours.

Hehe, you may be right. I'm at the 30 hour mark, and I've only just barely been able to sail around freely!

So far though, it's been one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time. I'm a little shocked that I waited so long to play it.

Dragon Quest does take forever to beat! I beat it in 92 hours with doing all of the side quests and such and wow! I believe the game took me at least two in a half years to actually beat (I work and go to school) so it was pretty over whelming to say the least. I can't wait for the release of the others to come our way. It's about time we get the cool games!
