I'm definitely up for Neo Pinball. Now if private proto collectors would just be reasonable...

Looking over this thread again I can't believe its been 20+ years since some of these games have emulated screenshots but have never been publicly released. It makes me wonder if maybe the owners have died and files are just lost forever now.

Or lost in fires, floods, generally lost, drives housing the ROMs died, etc. It's a damn shame.

I think the people who "advocate" for game preservation should focus on preserving unreleased games since those are literal time bombs given the circunstances in how they were stored. It's a damn miracle two Sega Channel exclusive titles were found this November in CD-ROMs that were used on PCs as servers to shuffle content for the Sega Channel.

Regarding unreleased Neo Geo titles, i do think sometimes that the people who have them like to presume they are the ones who can only play it and not everybody else outside of their circle. Don't cry like a bitch if you lose that game due to a HDD crash or any given circunstance

Some information on the Neo-Geo prototype for Janshin Densetsu: Quest of Jongmaster (雀神伝説) by Yubis. That game was originally titled Sei Janshi Densetsu: Chiyuuren no Majo (聖雀士伝説 チユウレ一ンの魔女) and demonstrated at the '92 AOU show and in the issue of Gamest magazine linked below. There seems to be a similartiy in the art-style of the cut scenes in Sei Janshi Densetsu: Chiyuuren no Majo from to those from the lost Neo-Geo game, Karate Ninja Sho. Info below:

Are you talking about a sequel to Janshin Densetsu/Quest of Jongmaster?

This is pretty cool. FF1 isn't the only FF that "stops" the idle animations when the two players are close to each other, but it seems with FF1 that out of that stance you can produce some different effects that are different to the normal close up attacks? I can comprehend spoken Japanese somewhat, but with no VOs I'm not sure of the instructions here.

Edit: Never mind - missed the link above. Google Translate is my friend.

"The Bogard brothers, whose adoptive father Jeff was killed by Geese, are in a bad mood."

I love Google translate.

How many years some of these morons are on this "sekrit klub" rom trading game? You'd think someone who spent 20 years collecting and trading protos with other tards would realize there's little left to achieve and just dump the games out there all at once in a blaze of glory. Who wants to be in his 50s or 60s wasting their precious life force with this shit...

I had to post this here as soon as i saw it. This is from an article about Block Paradise in the Japanese publication Hippon Super! (In the February 1991 issue). One of the screenshots features an underwater background, which i have never seen before in any of the Sun Shine previews in magazines.

Looks like it was being called Block Paradise by that point. It does look improved graphically from the other Sun Shine version. Here is the jank Google translation, I'm sure someone here can do better.

This is the conclusion i came with a recent mini research i did in my spare time regarding Sun Shine via magazines available online, anecdotes by Takashi Hatono, and the first book about unreleased arcade games by author Zeku:

Alpha Denshi's president Kazuo Arai was inspired by Tetris to make a puzzle game but rather than a clone, Arai wanted to see shoot 'em up elements integrated into the design. Hence why the Sun Dish can shoot puzzle pieces to drop pieces faster or swap the pieces' color. That and the Squalls/Sunshines, which act as screen-clearing bombs.

While Sun Shine, Block Paradise, and Fun Fun Bros were never released, Arai was so adamant in wanting his vision to become a reality that he was actually the driving force behind Twinkle Star Sprites, a puzzle shoot 'em up. Making Sun Shine and its unreleased spin-offs distant relatives to Twinkle Star Sprites, bringing everything into a circle.

I just stumbled upon this old tweet: apparently, this user (probably a former ADK member) managed to play Mystic Wand decades ago. The user implies that there is an EEPROM containing Mystic Wand.

Turns out that there is more to the story. According to a former SNK staffer, Mystic Wand was actually complete and sent to SNK, so there might be some prototype cartridges out there. After all, the game was shown at the 1991 Summer CES.
