The launch is going to bomb here. I predict sales of less than 30,000 units, and that is on the high side.
Thing is, MS still haven't released any sales figures for the US, but in Japan the figures will be public in just over 7 days from now, and as soon as they are out will be concrete proof that the launched has bombed, and there will be no way they can try and hype their way out of it. As such, I think MS will try and publicise some sales figures from other regions elsewhere pretty soon to put out some positive vibes before the Japan failure hits the headlines.
Also, is Gamespot on Microsoft's payroll? It must be, because those JPN 360 launch articles are a joke.
Let's see now. Nice big headline:
'Next-gen console sells out in half an hour at launch location'.
Yay! Fuck me, the XBOX 360 is kicking ass in Japan! Bit of a surprise there then!!
Gamers planning to buy an Xbox 360 at Shibuya Tsutaya didn't have to worry about lining up early, as the store gave out numbered tickets to ensure order. Nonetheless, there were already more than 80 people lined up outside in the cold an hour before the console went on sale at 7 a.m.
80 people? 80????? No fucking wonder they didn't have to worry about lining up early: because no one else was intersted! 80 people? I have seen more than that queue up at my local supermarket waiting for the staff to discount the fresh produce.
From a purely retail perspective, the event was a resounding success. Half an hour after the launch began, all the Xbox 360 consoles at Shibuya Tsutaya were sold out.
So, er, how many units were sold then? Looks like they forgot to mention that. Let's see, with 80 people queueing up outside, then let's be generous and assume that they sold more than 80. Let's assume a futher 20 people came into the shop after the huge crowds had dispersed. 100. Yay! All 100 units sold out immediately. What a success story Microsoft. Well done.
Fucking joke. If they had one unit for sale, and someont bought it, it means they can proclaim the launch a success because all units sold out! Let's see the figures Microsoft, and then let's see you try and make some bullshit headlines up about them.
