Members living in Japan, i'm looking at you! And everyone else, please post any pertinent links, and photos from the launch day.

I don't know about you but I'm very interested in the Japanese launch for this console. Fail or succeed I'd like to know. I don't want to wait for the news outlets to do their schpiel, so lets get the info in real time in this thread.

No Bill Gates, (was at the first). Peter Moore is there.

Numbered Ticket system, 80 people lined up outside of the Shibuya Tsutaya Shopping Center (main locale) 1 hour before launch. MSFT says total numbers of customers at the store are about 250.

I love the fact that Microsoft is pushing this fantastic world wide launch bullshit, when it is clearly only a token launch in both Europe and Japan. And has even led to them pissing alot of people off here in the US. Way to go Microsoft, piss of your core base of consumers why don't ya!

good evening JF (11:57:33 PM): What a shitty launch lineup
good evening JF (11:57:36 PM): Especially for Japan
good evening JF (11:57:50 PM): There's TWO Japanese games in that lineup
good evening JF (11:58:05 PM): Nobody wants to play FPS or Chinker car racing games in Japan
good evening JF (11:58:19 PM): Or "Chigger" if you prefer
good evening JF (11:59:03 PM): They should've had the most Japped out game ever for the launch
good evening JF (11:59:07 PM): Some faggot RPG game
good evening JF (11:59:16 PM): DESTINY STARS IV: OBLIVION OCEAN
kontact900 (11:59:20 PM): HAHA CHINKER
good evening JF (11:59:24 PM): Then it would've sold like rice cakes.

360 is doomed in Japan.

BTW X360 has a launch Bundle of Final Fantasy XI. And the JP don't like Ridge Racer?

The launch would have been alot stronger if there wasn't apprehension about the already documented US crashing problems, and if DOA4 hadn't been delayed.

if it really has all the problems of the us launch like power supply shit and freezing
like everyone is saying then they should fall on their faces.
i remember all the prehype press that there were like 30 jap developers hoping
on board to make games for them.
hah hah.
ho ho.

The launch is going to bomb here. I predict sales of less than 30,000 units, and that is on the high side.

Thing is, MS still haven't released any sales figures for the US, but in Japan the figures will be public in just over 7 days from now, and as soon as they are out will be concrete proof that the launched has bombed, and there will be no way they can try and hype their way out of it. As such, I think MS will try and publicise some sales figures from other regions elsewhere pretty soon to put out some positive vibes before the Japan failure hits the headlines.

Also, is Gamespot on Microsoft's payroll? It must be, because those JPN 360 launch articles are a joke.

Let's see now. Nice big headline:

'Next-gen console sells out in half an hour at launch location'.

Yay! Fuck me, the XBOX 360 is kicking ass in Japan! Bit of a surprise there then!!

Gamers planning to buy an Xbox 360 at Shibuya Tsutaya didn't have to worry about lining up early, as the store gave out numbered tickets to ensure order. Nonetheless, there were already more than 80 people lined up outside in the cold an hour before the console went on sale at 7 a.m.

80 people? 80????? No fucking wonder they didn't have to worry about lining up early: because no one else was intersted! 80 people? I have seen more than that queue up at my local supermarket waiting for the staff to discount the fresh produce.

From a purely retail perspective, the event was a resounding success. Half an hour after the launch began, all the Xbox 360 consoles at Shibuya Tsutaya were sold out.

So, er, how many units were sold then? Looks like they forgot to mention that. Let's see, with 80 people queueing up outside, then let's be generous and assume that they sold more than 80. Let's assume a futher 20 people came into the shop after the huge crowds had dispersed. 100. Yay! All 100 units sold out immediately. What a success story Microsoft. Well done.

Fucking joke. If they had one unit for sale, and someont bought it, it means they can proclaim the launch a success because all units sold out! Let's see the figures Microsoft, and then let's see you try and make some bullshit headlines up about them.

well the system has to sell better than the xbox did in japan, it's white and there's a final fantasy game on it. still i don't give a fuck, japanese sales don't effect me, the first xbox was proof of that, I still got all the games I wanted.

I'll be going to Tokyo in January it would be pretty funny to see a bunch of used 360 systems already up for sale.

I think that just given the fact that it's not an incredibly huge and ugly system, the 360 will do a lot better in Japan that the Xbox did. Then again, that only goes so far when they still don't have a lot of the Japanese developers they need, or any major games ready for launch.

The PC port of ToHeart2. It has H scenes the original PS2 version didn't. (Well that and minigames and an extra character but what does THAT matter when there's sex?)

After the relatively low sales and low reviews of DSIII, I wouldn't count on it.

I know.

All I have to look forward to now is the forthcoming ELOTH:TES MMORPG.

BTW, At 4 AM PST I was already Playing Ridge Racer 6 in a Lobby full of Japanese.

Pretty nifty. No lag at all.

Previously I had serious lag problems, but I found out you need to turn off the Filesharing between the 360 and your PC as that causes a large lag.

The store where I reserved mine at, Aso-Bit City in Akihabara, was the only store in Akiba that was opening early for the launch so I decided to go check it out for the hell of it. I ended up getting there way too early, around 5:45, but to my surprise there was already one guy waiting there. I walked to the end of the street to get a coffee and when I got back, about three more guys had shown up. The campaign girls gave us hot coffee and hot pads which was a big help. A lot of people walking by were taking pictures. If you see a guy in a suit and a black trench coat freezing his ass off, that's me. We all did the ten second countdown together and when the store opened at 7 there were about thirty or thirty five people in line. I only bought two games but the guys in front of me bought a stack. The Final Fantasy thing wasn't exactly a bundle, you got a copy of the beta if you reserved the system. If I have to choose what kind of launch I am going to participate in, I'll take one where everyone gets what they came for over one where legions are turned away empty-handed anyday.

Great account, SoloFenris.

This is the kind of thing I wanted to read when I started this thread, I'm glad everyone who wants one there can easily get one. (even if the launch is a 'failure')

Enjoy your 360.
