Hey guys, I really think we should have a thread for just tips and tricks to tweak out your cabinets. I actually have a question that hopefully you guys can help me with related to this topic.

I have an MKII conversion cab to Capcom vs SNK and I wanted to replace the default midway speakers with some nice infinity or rockford ones (car audio speakers). First thing, does anyone here own an MKII cab? Whats up with the speaker setup? Theres one large speaker on the left, and a smaller (tweeter?) on the right, I thought MKII was stereo... is this some sort of DCS feature?

Anyway my main concern is (obviously) the replacing of one 12w speaker with two 75w speakers. How safe is that exactly? I've been told that I can just replace the speakers and everything will be fine, other people are telling me it will draw too much power from the board, I dont know what to believe. Is it as simple as just wiring them up from the Capcom IO board, or will these speakers need their own power supply?

Thanks in advance guys,
Shmenge

Edit - On top of that, I dont think either the rockfords or the infinity's are shielded, which absolutely blows. Can you buy speaker sheilding by itself or does it have to come on the speaker? I bought some shielded speakers from happ but they sounded worse than the one thats already in there.

I have a conversion.

MKII is mono, the first (and last) in the series to go stereo was MK4.
The audio output amp is a MB3731 bootlaced with the speaker connected between pins 8 and 10, if your are connecting a pair of car audio 4 ohm speakers connect them in series, in parallel the resultant 2 ohms will be on the low side for the audio output stage to drive.

Thanks for the info, I saved what you said incase I needed it. However on further inspection the default midway amp is no longer there... All I see is the power cords power unit, a regular power supply, naomi board and IO converter. I had the RCA jacks hooked up to my stereo and as such, I can use the car speakers, but obviously I dont want to stick my stereo inside the cabinet. Trying to find some alternatives. I'll take some pics when I get a chance. And I would really like to find some nice shielded car stereo speakers for this thing. No one shields car stereo speakers. :(

Just as an update, I recently bought a micro stereo that I'm going to use to power the speakers in the cabinet. Unfortunately I still cant find any really good shielded speakers. I should have room to put a small subwoofer inside the cabinet somewhere (again, wrapping it in some kind of shielding of course)and if i really cant find any decent speakers then i might have to use the kick ass ones that came with it, and just crack their cases open. Obviously not something I want to do. :crying:

Just giving an update on whats going on with my CvS cab:

As I stated before I put a micro stereo inside the cab to work as an amp for the new rockford speakers I bought. The CvS is inside a MKII conversion cabinet, which MKII was originally mono, coming with one large 6 1/2" speaker and a smaller 3" speaker (3 if I remember correctly). Well no longer. I took the piece of wood out, got a replica, cut the groove for the marquee myself, and then drilled two 5 1/2" holes for the new speakers. I installed the new stereo piece of wood in replace of the old mono piece, and now I have one sweet sounding Capcom vs SNK cab. Pics will come soon!

Edit - almost forgot, I got new joysticks (going to drill so they fit better in the MKII cab) and buttons, not just for CvS, but my VF1 and VF2 cabinets as well. I'm also going to get some nice new chrome t-molding for the VF cabinets to make em all spiffy looking again! :D

OK, it's kind of hard to see, but here's the after pic. Everything I did to that piece of wood I did by hand (it shows) because at the time I had no tools available and I'm a very impatient person when it comes to the things I love. :p

I've been thinking about taking the micro-stereo out now that I have a multimeter, and just using the Capcom IO to output through some cut-up RCA cables and attatch those to the speakers instead. Then I can test the PSU with the multimeter to make sure it's outputting enough juice to power them. It depends on what I think sounds better and if it's worth the tradeoff.

Edit: And yes, I am working on getting an actual bezel. :)
