Well, I only said it for the wordplay...oddly enough I don't give a shit about any of the characters either, but my suspense and interest in the overall story remains.
More than anything I think the shows appeal lies in it's grit and irreverence towards conventional "medieval fantasy" storytelling....lots of tits, fucking, cussing, and killing off characters you thought were central to the story. Like the sopranos, but with swords and shit.

Actually I was really interested in the characters... every single character that got killed in the first season.
The series does seem to not abuse the whole "fantasy" thing, keeping it to what I like to call a "sprinkle level" and be more centered in politics, fucking and killing main characters so may be that's why it hasn't only caught the regular fantasy themed fanatics.

Buy hey I think there's a lot of potential in the series with the whole...
