Speccy fans (so that would be mostly me I guess) rejoice, here's The Spectrum, a recreation of the good old dead flesh keyboard 48k Speccy.

In their own words:

"A beautifully designed masterpiece that belongs in an art gallery.

Adorned with its signature rainbow colours, this fun, quirky and extroverted machine brings back the joy of accessible pick-up-and-play games, offering an experience that modern gaming has lost.

With its timeless aesthetic and vibrant personality, The Spectrum isn’t just an updated replica of the iconic Eighties home computer, it’s a work of art that delivers a nostalgic yet ever-relevant gaming adventure for everyone.

Available 22 November 2024"

So, fami, there's your new Speccy, now go in helicopta and be the first in your neighbourhood to get one!

So what exactly would be the point of this over just downloading an emulator on a PC?

And why would any human being ever want to play a Spectrum game to begin with? Just watch a power point presentation and stab a pencil into each eardrum. Literally the same experience.

Update:

Here's a vid with a quick presentation of all 48 builtin games.

Of course it's inevitable that many games are missing, the Speccy got thousands of games in its lifetime and beyond, after all. However, the fact there's not a single Ultimate Play The Game (Rare) game in there is quite disappointing. I never was a huge fan of their isometric ("filmation") games like Alien 8, Knight Lore and others but I always loved gems like Jetpac, Atic Atac, Tranz Am, Cookie and more. The Stamper brothers defined major parts of the Speccy experience with their unique and high-quality output, no Speccy best-of collection should be without it. I guess it's a licensing problem in the end, and yeah, you could always add them yourself but it's still kinda sad.

The rest of the world feels that way about the USA...so fuck you, yankee😎
As long as y'all keep your ZX Spectrum trash on that side of the Atlantic.

It's like trying to play Atari 2600 with someone poking you in the eyes, kicking you in the nuts, and screaming in your ear.
