Now that the CPS3 encrpytion has been broken and people flock out to d/l the emu + games, I want to see which in your opinion is the best SFIII game, and why.

I will add my thoughts + vote later on.

Fire away. . .

As much as I enjoy Third Strike, Chun-Li breaks the goddamn game.
Yes there are overpowered characters in every game, but I don't think there's ever been one whose basic strategy is so easily mastered by anyone with a pulse and two hands.

I haven't played 2I in eons but the backgrounds were fucking amazing.
Someone needs to make a hack that puts 2I's BGs in Third Strike and neuters Chun-Li...that would be the best SFIII ever.

New Gen is fun to play Ryu in just to clean CPU clock with Shin Shoryuken.

I'm sticking with 3rd strike as the best because I love the gameplay. But I understand how much more aesthetically pleasing 2i is.

3rd strike. Really like the gameplay. It has more character's. It has some cool backgrounds. Pretty much overall. It is what Im use to playing anyway. Second impact is a great game though. :)

Street Fighter 3 New Generation

My favorite of the three

First street Fighter I played in the arcade that I and felt like I knew what I was doing. The controls were very responsive.

Small but nice roster.

Nice Backgrounds.

Nice Background Music.

Nice game overall.

My favorite Street Fighter really.

2nd Impact, I prefer tha art over Third Strike and I really couldn't care less about small gameplay tweaks, I suck too much at the game to notice them anyways.

3rd Strike, gameplay wise (the most important factor) it's the best by far, but we do need a new SF

Third Strike all the way.

As much as I'm dying to play 2i in true widescreen and appreciate the different asthetics and its nostalgic value, Third Strike edges it out for variety.

(and whats wrong with TS's Bgs? Sure, they have a more pre rendered look than a hand drawn approach, but they are cool too and suit the game fine)

It's all about Third Strike. I could care less about 2I's BG's.

The roster and gameplay is better in 3S.

I voted 3rd strike, for technically the best and deepest out of the series

I like 2i , but the chars I play , Urien and Yun, are both nerfed, you can't charge uriens projectile into a chariot, his combo abilities are somewhat limited, I haven't played yun on 2i enough to compare for a long time but I remember him being not as good.

however, I like the first one best out of the series, I just do, its more interesting to me and I play games for enjoyment .

Preach on brother! I can't say I'm happy with what Capcom did to Chun-Li in 3rd Strike.

My favorite Street Fighter really.

Unlike the rest of the populace, I really enjoyed New Generation as well (It helps when it's the only SF III game that I could find in arcades back in the day.).

The only SF game I can think of where it actually feels like fights against Ryu/Ken players can actually go either way for a change (Instead of the one-sided crap from SF II.).
Sean was also hella better than he is in 3rd Strike.

2nd Impact was nice too, but I don't care much for some of the new improvements.

Yun and Yang as separate charaters was ace.
Can take or leave EX moves.
Didn't miss Akuma or the aerial Hurricane Kicks in the least.

As for 3rd Strike,

Makoto's the only worthwhile addition IMO.
Don't care for Red Parries (Especially since they removed something I actually liked from the earlier games.).
Don't like 3rd Strike's you must master parrying to stand a chance mentality.
Gill's been infected by the SNK boss syndrome. He's already annoying enough to deal with in the earlier games. Now he has a full screen super. Sigh, I miss the days when it was possible to counter or avoid all attacks.

Even after watching this and seeing how buggy as hell the earlier SF III games were, I'd still pick them over 3rd Strike. 3rd Strike just isn't as fun to play as New Generation or 2nd Impact.

All 3 incarnations are fundamentally solid fighters so my choice for best of the lot comes down to asthetics. I have to go with 2I, most notably for the amazing BGs and the fact that I can't stand the soundtrack in 3S.

3rd Strike - best gameplay. Soundtrack and Chun are annoying, but they don't ruin the game for me. Maybe I'd think differently if I played in tournaments, but that's not gonna happen.

The first one shouldn't even be considered really. No air specials? What is this, champion edition?

Second Impact is my favorite. Sean is a lot more fun to play. Ryu has two bars of Denjin. Ibuki isn't neutered. Hugo does sick damage. I love it.

Third Strike is awesome, but I really hate how basic and top tier Chunli is. The parry system is better, for sure. Still, Remy sucks, Q sucks, Sean sucks, Necro sucks.. I mean, half the cast is dispensable. Still, everybody can pretty much compete because of the system, which I think is a double edged sword of sort.

Anyway... 2I for me.

what are the gameplay differences between ng, 2i, and 3s? i dont really know.:crying: when the game system isnt spoon fed to me like a neogeo how to play screen i dont really pick it up.

i will say i much prefer the 1 button throws in 2i. and i dont really get the hop attack thats in 3s even though in vids it seems like its useful, i just dont know how to use it.

i like 3s because it has the bigger roster.

2i has better aesthetics.

i like ng for the same reason i like world warrior.

i also kind of prefer the voices in ng and 2i over 3s.

i dont really know enough to pick a favorite.:emb:

Agree with Galfordo and Wasabi. I guess I'll have to play them all a little more though. For me balance isn't huge since I'm up against friends or the computer most of the time. I loved Alpha 3. It's an utterly broken game, but it had great atmosphere/sense of humor and is fun in single player.

I have been playing 2I a little and I like it, it has a "classic" Capcom feeling to it.

But I still like Third Strike much more. The artwork is just great, the music is extremely good, huge character roster, the gameplay is superb -- sure, Chun-li is extrmely over-powered, but that isn't enough reason for me to not consider it the best 2D fighter ever.

Also, unlike all other CPS3 games, Third Strike simply looks much more polished and professional from an aesthetical standpoint. The graphics, the BG's, the interface, everything -- just compare the character selection screen from 2I with the one from 3S and you'll understand.

I still believe Third Strike is the best 2D fighter ever created.

Alpha 2 > Alpha 3.
Second Impact > Third Strike.

Sorry Capcom.
