Weird.

The American Ring movie did many things that would render Ringu2 an impossible movie to make, story-wise.

Ringu was superior in every way to The Ring except for the look of the water-logged, decomposing corpses, though Hideo Nakata didn't have the benefit of Rick Baker.

The superfluous addition of the horses sub-plot turned me against the remake immediately: hurting an animal is a cheap shot in any movie, as the filmmakers know it's a way to instantly draw an emotional response from an audience. If a movie is going to kill an animal on screen (in a particularly brutal fashion, I might add), then it better aesthetically earn it's attempt to hurt me with a story that requires it, and Verbinski's Ring failed that task miserably.

The American Ring 2 has me interested only because Nakata has taken the reigns for this one, and will benefit from an increased budget and (arguably) better actors.

Walter Salles' Dark Water remake looks good as well (I liked the original, and loved Motorcycle Diaries, so it will be hard to screw this one up -- just don't change the ending....)

I saw the entire japanese series from ringu 0 to 1 to 2 and enjoyed them all. I didn;t really like the Americanized version. I hop they will do better with the ring 2.
