Agreed, 100%. There's a bit that happens here that I think is over the top or distasteful. I know I do some things that others would classify in this way. Say what you want about how we run the site. There is wide berth given to most things. We have very high tolerance but clearly defined rules. We are all adults and I expect you behave that way.
Another great point. I'd say that a lot of the discourse in Unrelated is pretty damn insightful and sharp. It's not mid-2000's here with political threads dominating and Unrelated being more political than a stroll through MSNBC/CNN/Fox News/Al-Jazeera, but it's still pretty strong and interesting.
I don't know who does that sort of behavior, but that's just ABHORRENT! Who would do something like that?

I'd rather be stabbed in the front any day of the week. There are plenty of folks who get their bad blood and hatred out with other members frequently but openly. Are there a few little bitches running around here (or elsewhere) that don't do that? Sure... but they're not really respected. We all know who they are.
It's healthy, it gives this site its unique flavor.
I've had some head butting with folks over the years but I respect those folks (at least most of them) for coming here and saying what needs to be said. There shouldn't be any fear of "corporate retribution" because it quite simply doesn't happen. I don't see any mod as the kind of person that would do that either.
I'm of the mind (and other mods are) that free speech here is encouraged and fostered.
Hell, if Shawn wanted every person who said a negative thing to each other or him out of anger or boredom over the years gone, this site would be empty.

We are very tolerant.
It's like a giant family. We fuck with each other but we don't let anyone else fuck with you. We know what's off-limits and what isn't. Sometimes people step over the line but they're dealt with internally. We mete out our own form of justice.

Nah, I feel really at home here. When I had my leech behaviour I felt like "oh my what I've done they're kicking my ass for good" but now it's really nice to be here. Kinda warmer than other forums, actually.

I love how the recently marketplace banned often mention how rude some of the responses are! They usually add they're a lurker too.
A lurker in the marketplace that is as most threads there are mellow. Anywhere else, you can get clowned and can clown others.
How can they not know this? This place has a reputation of being tough on each other, noobs, etc on other forums, yet these assholes always seem surprised.
One of the things that attracted me to this place was the Warroom. Being a noob, I stuck my nose in a few threads and was dealt with

The forums aren't really harsh per se.
IMO its a place where there is no filter needed. There is dark, dry humor at the expense of rib jabbing that islre colorful than other forums. When I first joined it took some time to get into the groove of how to word posts and what people are looking for in the information you present. To say that the forums are intimidating is redundant and essentially an excuse for inaction.
This place is not evil. Its not Sodom and Gomorrah (despite how much some ppl want it to be). Its a no bullshit, no hassle, bottom line up front environment where clear rules and communication are enforced. It doesn't get any more cut and dry than that. The members here (myself included) operate as if you are a grown adult who is A) aware of their actions and B) thinks before posting/PMing. When we kick you in the ass for breaking a rule, its because you broke a rule. Simple, basic rules that emphasize participation.
The members are great. The community is one that I've grown very find of over the past year I've been here. Its worth putting your ass through the fire, so long as you can grow from it.
