Neo-Geo Forums

As of late, I've seen too many threads dedicated to things people hate about the King of Fighters (i.e. "I don't like the King of Fighters 96... blah blah blah... Kensou's a terrible fighter... more rambling... anyone who like KOF 95 or Athena is a moron...") What's with you people?!? Fed up with all of this "feces-tossing", I've decided to create a thread dedicated to the things people like about the King of Fighters.

I'll start. Here's what I like about:

KOF 94: First game was a ton of fun when I played it in a local arcade back in 1995; first appearances of Kyo, Benimaru, and Goro Daimon; nice variety of teams and stages.

KOF 95: First appearance of Iori Yagami; Team Edit; play as Saishu and Omega Rugal.

KOF 96: More characters; larger, improved graphics; the ability to dash; Orochi storyline (officially) starts here; more moves; Vice, Mature, and more to choose from.

KOF 97: Two different power meters (Advanced and EX mode); New Faces Team (Yashiro, Shermie, Chris); play as Shingo or Blue Mary; Orochi Leona and Orochi Iori; Orochi himself; hidden endings; best AES cover!

KOF 98: Fuses the best elements from KOF 96 and 97 together; return of USA Sports Team (c'mon, you know that there has to be at least one useless team that's fun to beat up in every game); multiple endings; no storyline to worry about (so new fans can jump right in); Shermie, Mai, and Mary nude code (let's see how many people buy that one
<IMG SRC="smilies/loco.gif" border="0"> ).

KOF 99: New storyline; new characters (K's a good fighter, but has about as much emotion as the guy in charge of programming the WB Network's schedule); anime-style character select screen; Strikers (I don't care, they made things more interesting); new boss; hidden endings for the Fatal Fury and Psycho Soldiers teams; Athena's new look (reminds me a ton of one of my female friends); Kyo's new outfit.

KOF 2000: More new characters (Vanessa and Seth, in particular); Strikers and Hidden Strikers (added more variety to the game, IMO); Kula Diamond; team edit when challenged by another player.

KOF 2001: Nice artwork; new characters (Mei-Li and Angel, in particular); the re-union of the Japan and Art of Fighting Teams; uhhh... not much else (still have yet to play it).

Other things: the variety and diversity of characters (where else are you going to see characters from Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting take on each other?); Shinkirou's artwork (especially his later stuff); the numerous manga anthologies (hilarious; watch as Shingo tries to join the Psycho Soldiers or the Female Fighters team [just an example]); more fun than most Capcom fighting games; and more... <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
