But then I have to ask... why did you bother coming back?

For a moment in time, my thoughts and life were captured here almost daily. Most of those thoughts will remain in internet hell for the entirety of this site's existence.

Never hated this place, just had to move on. Always nice to check back in. Fuck legacy, my life is not greater nor worse with anyone's opinion.

Call me when you're seriously smart and successful.

Definitely didn't get me.

And, how do you measure smart and successful? Back in 2003, this would've been measured by a pic of a US AES Metal Slug cart. The proverbial Neo-Geo cock shot.

Yes, and some people's adult living rooms are full of adult things and still want to celebrate their love of classic games front and center without having a bizarrely out of place plastic box, seemingly from the early nineties, in the middle of their entertainment center. [...]
But what if you're someone that still wants to play the games how they'd play on the original hardware? "No compromise" and all that? And if you did clone those chips then what would happen to those original NESs you spared? [...]
even the non-gamer people that I've shown it to, that's what makes it cool. [...] there are people who will collect for this that would never collect for the old grey box.
If you love "classic games" (- that term is almost as dumb as "retrogaming" - either you want to play good games and go where you suspect/find those, get on nostalgic trips and "replay" better days, or you are a hipster doofus following a trend that just "collects" and doesn't give a shit about the games themselves but prestige or filling some empty hole or whatever it is) you'd have learned to live with how "classic" systems look or would even outright worship their design. It fits the games, it fits the era. Want HiFi-High Def-High Price-state of the art-gaming? Get a fucking Xbone, PS4 or high end PC. And if it was all about having a nice enclosure that aesthetically works with your entertainment center or S/M dungeon, get one made that fits the original PCBs. christoph could have easily done that (like he did with his wooden CMVS).

As for the people who will collect now that wouldn't have collected otherwise: IDIOTS, HIPSTERS, VICTIMS - fuck em all. Do you think those games will get play? Hell no. Will these people stop at killing Famicoms? No way - they'll need the cardboard, plastic and/or ugly stickers of those old cartridges replaced. Creating the fakest of all "retroenthusiasm". Maybe a very few will learn to appreciate the games - even in their non-aluminum enclosures -, only looking at the soul of those games, not the enclosures. Those people will suddenly wake up an realize, their "collecting" was a needless killing of good hardware, they'll go back to the old ways, trash their Analogue NTs and try to join the bandwagon of hate.

save-the-famicoms-ng.jpg

The "no compromise" folks shouldn't buy an Analogue NT because the circuits aren't the same - the audio channel separation alone ("Stereo") isn't for the purist. They could easily get both systems (Fami/NES) and have them modded, get a converter etc. instead.

The spared systems would continue to exist. Future generations would play them or they could be used to fix up totally broken systems. You know what? I'll buy a couple today just to safe them from being thrown away or even sacced for an anal hipster box.

What are you trying to say dude? No, none of it is "high end"

The sticks, the case, how they are built, just like I said.

it's all off the shelf parts slapped together. Any modder can do that, most good ones don't have the audacity to put it in an "interesting" case and charge exorbitant prices for it.

Actually if we're talking about sticks, you've just described something that is practically an industry.

All of these things

I started collecting Neo Geo something like 8 to 10 years ago because I love the software, I bought a Neo Geo big red because I love the hardware. It's what I grew up playing in the arcades, laundromats, I don't even know how much money I spent on metal slug, but it's been my favorite series of games since it was released and they put a machine in the movie theater near my house.

I wanted to run an arcade when I was growing up.

NES I had at home. LoZ, Duck Hunt, Contra, Castlevania, I freakin love those games... LoZ still blows my mind... but you know what I've thought about the NES since I was like 6? Dang this thing is ugly. When I was introduced to the SNES and eventually met the famicom it only made it worse.

-

You know what? Roker is right.

If you want an Nt buy it. If you like your NES keep it. If you wanna save all the abandoned famicoms buy them all and put them in a warehouse.

Peace.

I'm out.

Ok, so you want a "pretty" NES - like I said, get an enclosure done that fits the original PCBs.

You know what? Roker is right. Peace. I'm out.
NOOO! FIGHT ME! HIPPIE! FIGHT ME TO THE DEATH!
You could've at least pointed to some feature (beside looks) you want/need in the Nt that a modded NES/Famicom can't provide. But Idiots gonna be idiots I presume.

Well, I'm off to buy some more HVC-001s before christoph gets to them.

Hey, don't know if I made this clear earlier, if I had 500 to burn, I'd buy one. This thing looks sweet.

As it stands, I could think of a bajillion things I'd rather spend 500 bucks on, among them:

1) A fancy new suit

2) money towards a laptop (macbook or something)

3) new parts for my bike

4) A trip to see friends

5) some new furniture

6) Kizuna AES Euro Cart

I really doubt enough famis will be sacced to cause a shortage, the fucker is 500 dollars.

LMAO... wouldn't call a $500 suit "fancy". I've spent more on blazers alone.

Please, $500.00 is nothing. That wouldn't even come close to paying the middle man fee for buying an AF3 cart.

The sticks, the case, how they are built, just like I said.

Please go into greater detail, and tell me what's high end about it and what they do differently than any other modder or stick builder besides using strange materials that you normally wouldn't find on a video game system.

Actually if we're talking about sticks, you've just described something that is practically an industry.

Yes, I know. How does Analogue differentiate themselves in this industry?

Christoph, I find it hilarious that you danced around the questions knowing full well that people would not like the fact that you were sacking original parts then got offended when you were called out for it. You sir are a dishonest salesman. Not only did you duck and dodge important questions until the announcement but I see you are still employing deceptive marketing strategies on the sales page (still calling the audio stereo on your main page with no explanation to what that means). You are literally the retro gaming community's version of a sleazy used car salesman. These marketing tactics are damn near Drakon level deception. People like you prey on those that simply do not know better.

I am also guessing you are using Tim's RGB kit since you list the same exact palette options he uses (just under a different name). How much of Tim's stock you are eating up for this $500 piece of shit? I was telling the guys in chat for a couple weeks now that I bet your overpriced NES was the cause of the delay on his next batch of PCB's (they were expected sometime at the end of April). I really hope he is making a separate batch for you because if he is not you are one massive douche bag to eat up the stock for this shiny overpriced eyesore.

**edit**

I also find it extremely shitty that you are boasting it has HDMI support. Selling a cheap ass external video upscaler IS NOT HDMI support. That would be like me selling an SNES with an XRGB Mini and calling it an HDMI capable SNES.

Christoph just confirmed that it is using the NESRGB:

"Yes, the Analogue Nt uses the NESRGB."

Correct me if I'm wrong but, the NES RGB chips have been sold out for awhile.

What I'm more concerned about is whether or not Christoph is being given preferential order status for ordering a bulk shipment of the chips. Whatever arrangement he's made with the guy making them is all well and good but, he should have to wait in line to get one like everyone else. Not buy them all up for months and months to come like freaking Ticketmaster.

I doubt that enough people are going to be buying the NT to really eat into the supply of the NESRGB boards too much. Unless he ordered a ton of them thinking there are going to be thousands of preorders.

I honestly hope that's the case. But, there are many on this site waiting to have the work done on their Famicom or NES...but, no NESRGB to be had...FOR SOME REASON.

I myself was in a deal with someone to do the mod. The day before I was going to send the money, all the chips ran out.

I'm impressed that someone's been able to make something like the NESRGB. However, we need more people doing the same/similar thing. One source isn't enough.

Chris said there was no correlation to the NESRGB stock issue and his product:

The NESRGB board hasn't been available for a couple months now. Last time there was only about a month delay when Tim ran out of boards. I think that was around Christmas/end of year time.

More than likely Christoph has bought a couple hundred of these seeing as he bought a huge number of these supposed undesirable Famicoms. Several members remember seeing a large palette of famicoms for sale on Yahoo Japan about 4 or 5 months ago. There were probably a couple hundred units on it. Most likely this is how Christoph is getting his donor units.

You can get a nice suit for under 500 dollars easy, if you are not averse to buying 2nd hand. This is a good site, and no, I am not affiliated with them in any way:
