The weather just kicked now, it was cold for a while here, back almost a month there was a set of good days of weather, I rode those days but haven't since then, soon I'll get back into it. I'm so behind ATM, gotta catch up and get on the road again! Gotta loose 20lbs to get back into decent shape...I mean I'm still ok but not ideal.

I'll say that this tri training has pretty much stomped my cycling. I spend so much time doing everything else that I don't have much time for riding. I took the road bike out a few weeks ago, that was literally the first time since last summer.

On page 9 I mentioned getting a road bike for my then 7 year old...let's just say that ended in fire. She hated the thing and it pretty much spent its life hanging in my basement. Pushing 9, she has outgrown her 20" Specialized Hotrock (a bike she rides constantly), so she needed something else. Long story short, I sold the Giant road bike last week (at a $175 loss), and picked up this:

https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/...1-speed-girls/p/1582601-2017/?colorCode=black

It will server her well, she was already out and about on it last night.

I have my first (and last) tri of the season in a few weeks...once it is done, I'm focusing on cycling again. I'm sick of running and swimming.

I had been lusting over the GT Pantera Expert for a few months...
GTPanteraExp_celk1.jpg

but ended up getting another BMX frame instead. A 2016 S&M made Credence CCR.

Currently using my 2012 SE Racing OM Flyer as a commuter. I still want a decent plus bike, though.

Was able to cycle in to work a few times this week and not get rained on. Summer must be upon us. We don't get more sun, just less rain. Gotta really get back in the habit of it. The rainy springtime weather really puts me off going out there. Too many times would I drive, or show up to work soaked. But this belly isn't gonna just decide it wants to go traveling and leave.

I've been kicking around the idea of commuting to work myself, my only real issue is traffic and the fact that I live on one side of a giant land mass with my office being on the other. No matter what, it is a seriously climb in both directions to get to/from work. I have no way to shower at work so becoming a sweaty mess to get there isn't a good idea.

This bike has long been on my interest radar...I'd love to see how much umph it takes out of climbing up long hills.

https://www.specialized.com/us/en/men/bikes/turbo

The price on the standard continues to come down, the base is now $2500 and offers a 250w motor and 468Wh battery. The top line now offers a 500w motor and 691Wh battery...but costs a whopping $7000.

Obviously, that price is way out of my league...but it will come down. The original Turbo was over $5000 back when it fist came out, now it is $2500. I'm guessing that in a few years, trickle down will bring that 500w motor down tot he $3K range.

Can you lock out the rear suspension? If you can't even a hard tail would be way better. I see people riding road bikes in two ways, either speeding past or on the side of the trail replacing tyres lol. It took me maybe just over 5 years before I popped a tyre on my MTB. That said if you've been on a MTB doing those sort of distances you are going to fly on a road bike just due to the weight of the bike.

I converted everything to tubeless, but yeah same... It took me like 10 years before I blew a tire on my MTB bike.

But I can lock it out, the same with the front forks, but I don't. When I want to ride my hard tail, I ride that.

It's more of my mid life crisis bike. After I fell back in love with the trails and riding this summer, the owner let me demo this bike. They were changing my rear hub on warranty, and he said here take my bike this weekend. I wound up giving it back, and three weeks later asked if he would sell it lol.

I did my first ride on a road bike ever this October, and did 85 miles. I had such a good time, and loved every second of it.
Now all I do is Mountain Bike, and Peloton.
I'm thinking of ditching my Peloton and switching to Zwift, it's just the Peloton is easier and less stuff.
I love Power Zone Training.

I bought a $500 giant and rode that for 10 years and beat the fuck out of it, never serviced it, by the end I had broken spokes, rear disc was gone and the gears were stuck. I chucked it on the nature strip outside and it disappeared briefly before I found it dumped in the neighbors hedge, finally it disappeared but man what a trip.

I hadn't done much riding since my teenage years, but during covid lockdown I picked up a Giant roadbike from a local shop. Rode the absolute crap out of it that year. I don't ride it as much now as that first year, but it still gets plenty of use during the warmer months. That pic's from when I first bought it. I've since replaced the tires a couple of times (I prefer thicker treadier tires, it's not like I'm road racing), and I've got a big cushy seat now for my delicate tuchus.

Cycling is another rich white people thing now, it's absolutely insane the amount of money people drop on bikes.
I got sticker shock like 15 years ago, at my first mountain bike...
I walked in and started looking at a full suspension bike, and it was $7500 back then.
I laughed and said I could buy a ducati for that...
Road bikes are even more INSANE.

I still ride a 2006 made in USA Cannondale mountain bike that I bought new for $500. Before that I had a Trek 950 from the 90s.

I ride a fuji absolute 2.0 street bike I got for $180 that I bought from a drug addict named Tyrone down the street before he OD’ed 2 months later. Had it gone through and tuned up at a bike shop 2 years ago. It’s a nice bike.
Just your luck some guy Tyrone wronged will notice its the same bike and give you a beat down... Or off

Last weekend the ride wrap protection film finally came in. My friend installed it for me, ( that’s his side business) I can do it but it sucks and he’s really good at it. He also printed some new logos and changed the color for me. The wrap not only changes the appearance of the bike going from flat to gloss, it helps protect the frame from scratches , and makes cleaning a breeze. I also wanted to do this because if my bike gets stolen, it’s easier for me to find it. It doesn’t come with this color combination so it’ll stick out.

9 years later and I still didn't finish building my MTB.

I just put road tires on my mountain bike. It's a hard tail and the front suspension has remote lockout, so that works pretty well for riding around the neighborhood. I'm feeling too old for the mountain trails now, both in physical shape as well as injury liability. I'd say I miss it, but everyone I used to ride with has long since moved away. Still have a touring bike I can take on the local rails2trails, but usually only do that when one of my old friends comes to town.

Changed out a lot of parts on these over the years, very few original parts on either bike. The "mountain" bike is now a 1x10 drive train as I never really liked dealing with front shifting on the trail. I think modern mountain bikes have started moving to a 1x front setup, too. The touring bike is now a 2x9 with a 34/24 crankset I got from Rivendell. Originally had a triple on the front, but had no need for bigger chainring as I don't do anything fast anymore.
