This thing is pretty impressive, but what I don't get is how everyone is acting like just about everything runs at full speed or near it.

MotW is very slow for me, and so is just about everything else. Magical Drop 3 and Twinkle Star Sprites seem to run at full speed or close to it though, which is great since I've always wanted portable versions of both.

I think the least demanding game that I tried otherwise aside from those two was KoF98, which was also slow as hell... Still cool though.

Maybe it's something about your setup - cart or sd card. It runs perfect for all games that I tried, (except last blade 2), and I'm using a old supercard lite slot2 setup.

I just got an acekard RPG, and I'll try the emu later this week.

Could be... I'm using the original M3 with a PassMe cart (the one that uses mini SD cards). I remember my SD card being rated as one of the fastest, and it proved to be with the "Castlevania test". This thing has 8 or 16MB of RAM that the emu should be taking advantage of too if I'm not mistaken.

I'll try a different SD card later and see what happens.

Well, a friend of mine here have one of those M3s, and had problems with some games - he just got an AK2 now.

You guys should pick up the new version. It's AWESOME. You can configure your buttons and everything.

I picked up a Nyko Charger Grip last night (to make the DS chunkier) and I pulled off 2 Tenhafujinzans in SSII this morning!

Using the new conversion program I was able to convert all the roms I currently have for use on the DS. The games look very pretty on the DS, but run slow as hell.

I'm using the AK RPG 8G and the official ram expansion pack from the Opera web browser. The games run slow with or without the ram expansion.

None of my games run slow, and I'm using a Max card. You may wanna invest in a new flash card.

Everything sounds great, the only sound that doesn't come on is the opening Neo Geo jingle.

Well, it's missing all FM sound. The jingle just happens to be FM. I barely notice it usually cos they don't use it that often. (Cham Cham's stage was missing the melody I believe)

I almost joked to the author that he should just put a sample of the Neo Geo bootup sound in there just for coolness, but I was afraid he'd take me seriously.

He's a really nice guy who listens to suggestions.

Ahhh, thanks for the clarification. I haven't really messed with many games due to the fact that games run so slow on my card.

I will put the emulator through its paces whenever I can afford a new card.

It sounds like this is fun to play with, but I think it's a waste to seriously try to play stuff when it's not fully emulated. As you say, it's missing sounds, which may not be a big deal to you, but I still think it's silly to spend a lot of time playing something that isn't 100% when you have something better readily accessible.

I'd like to see you lug a Neo Geo on to a commuter train. :loco:

It beats the living shit out of a Neo Geo Pocket.

while it sounds like a neat experiment, if you really want to play neo on the go, just pick up a psp slim.

MVS, CPS1/2, Neo CD and Neo pocket color all on one handheld, really can't go wrong.

Isn't it enough to be able to play the games at home? It's not like they're making any new Neo Geo games anymore. I don't see the necessity to play on the go unless that's your only chance to play, in which case there are better options than the DS.

So now it's a matter of lifestyle choice? :P

Can you think of a better way to kill time than to play Neo Geo? Why WOULDN'T I want to be able to play anywhere I go?

What does it matter whether or not they're still making Neo Geo games? Have you beaten them all and gotten tired of Neo Geo?

It seems like your raging disdain of emulation gives you a case of flawed logic.

Do you have any recommendations for fun things for me to do on the train that you would say are more enjoyable and fulfilling than playing Neo Geo, CommuterOptionsAlec?

As for the PSP thing:

1) I don't own one (yet, anyway)
2) I heard it's not much good for fighting games.

P.S. Do you play Neo Geo every single day?

The slim's D-pad has been improved over the original. Much more suited for fighters than the DS's little crosshair.

Bill, my only point is that there are better ways to play Neo games. It's a waste to play them in an inferior way. They should be enjoyed in their original glory. And no, I don't play them every day. In fact, I've had to leave the whole mess of Neo stuff behind. I only see them when I visit my parents' place. I'm traveling light. Wish I had easy access to play anytime. That will be alleviated someday when my life settles down more and I can keep everything in one place.

I'm pretty sure playing them on a supergun in your parents basement doesn't qualify as "original glory".
