So as I am leaving for dinner today, my manager from work shows up with this cab in his truck. He said he found it on the side of the road haha. I plugged it in, sound and game work but no display. Oh well, I can most likely get it re-capped huh?

Its obviously a conversion from an original Mortal Kombat cab. It looks like they got lazy and didn't feel like finishing it or something.

I think I am going to remove the tekken art and do some simple restoration to it, then convert it into a shooting cab. Maybe put point blank or time crisis in it. Who knows, still pretty cool for free.

I just opened it up, found these goodies inside:

Tekken 3 board with manual:

Extra power supply. New in the box, box is labeled "Midway"

There is another amp of some sorts that the jamma harness runs into. I also found 2 extra bulbs for the marquee and about $3 in quarters. :buttrock:

The build on those midway cabs are actually quite nice. Strong and sturdy for some intense fighting action.

Same model as my "Mega" cab.

That's a pretty nice stand up. Did you do all that sideart and everything else or is that a stock design?

I did all the art and design on it. It too was a converted mortal kombat II to tekken.

My dad and I hand painted all the art on the sides, it was alot of work, but the fact that my dad is a professional sign painter helps.

Nice one, it turned out great.

We just moved it downstairs...my candy cabs look scared now that this big boy is in town. I just removed the control panel, marquee, stripped the nasty t-molding off it.

I just bought a Street Fighter 3 (2nd Impact) set up, was thinking of converting it to that. Anyone know where I could get some NOS control panel art & marquee to do such a conversion?

Calling the arcade ops tomorrow and see if any of them can come out and do a cap kit for me...shit scares me to death. If not, I might just end up putting a new/used monitor in it or flying BillD out to fix it for me :lolz:

Edit:

This is the kind of panel overlay I want to find, but "Classic Arcade Grafix" wants like $80 for it.

I think I would feel bad not returning it to a mortal kombat cab. I dont know but for some reason I hate conversions, probably because most are halfassed.

Dont worry dub I'm sure yours wont be.

I am completely with you on that. Some conversions can be real hack jobs, but others (like Chris's here) can turn out pretty nice.

I figured if I just gave it a good coat of black, put black t-molding on it, a capcom panel and marquee it wouldn't be *that* bad. I was quite a fan of Mortal Kombat (3 especially) and was considering restoring it to that, still haven't made up my mind. Making a shooter cab is out of the question though I decided. It needs to have some good fighter in it.

It should also be mentioned that this is the black sheep of my cabs. No matter what I do to it, I will still prefer my candies over it any day.

I wonder if I could even restore it for that price. What a good deal.

Speaking of which is another reason to just make it capcom conversion, its a free cab that i really could give 2 shits about...and just let people beat the shit out of it :tickled:

We'll see. First things first, I have to get the monitor working. That is more important than any of the future plans for this thing.

Yeah the MK3 he got needs a little monitor work. (Got a dark red color to it). But between the two of us weve gotten pretty good at working on monitors. You could probably turn it into an MK2 or original MK for way cheaper that MK3 board is always so expensive for some reason.

you should put a sign outside directing people to your basement

that capcom CPO stuff is available at arcadeshock.com

the extra amp boared might be a sound board, I had one with NBA JAM and its a midway game, perhaps their other titles used one too.

Awesome, they have it for $45.

I finally figured out that extra item was a replacement PSU because it matched the other one almost identical. My friend Ben pointed out that he might have bought the PSU to fix the problem, and never put it in. I tried that last night and got the same results - marquee and sound but no video.

I am going to try and find a new isolation transformer for it today, if that doesn't work it's most likely the monitor itself which might be more $ than I am willing to invest in this thing.

You can always do the penny trick. When SF2 came out I played at least 5000 times and only spent that in about 98% of pennies.

If your cab does not have a coin return door, you can simply slide a penny into to coin return guide and fling it upwards and it gives you a credit.

I hope I'm not the only who knew this.

Stripped

Got it pretty much torn apart now. Going to make a new panel for it next couple days. Found a guy to fix the monitor just waiting to hear back from him.

Another update on the freebie cab:

- Painted with a few coats of gloss black
- Made some 60" capcom logos for the side
- Made a new control panel (ordered the overlay from Arcade Shock)
- Ordered white T-Molding
- Ordered a SF3 marquee.
- Already have the SF3 move lists and glass all put back together.

Sorry all my pictures are so shitty. I am using my camera phone to take them, too lazy to get the regular camera out anymore.

thats why they have the tiny dogdoors..the only flips inward..to provent peopel from doing the penny thin

BUT if they are open ..like then the little inward guard is busted/not there... then it a whole new game:D
