Well, I suppose the title says it all. I received my tax return and now I plan to buy 2 cabinets from Matsu. The problem is, even after a lot of forum searching and a few visits to candycabinetcity.com, I really don't know what I'm going to get. My only real requests are that I can get atleast one with 6-button controls (for capcom stuff) and that I have one for vertical and one for horizontal. I may end up going with two matching cabs simply for the looks but I'd love to here some opinions.

I was toying with the idea of an Egret II along with a super neo 29, but that might end up more than I'm willing to spend. Also, since I'll be ordering two cabs and making one permanetly vertical and the other horizontal, the ease of rotating really isn't a huge deal. Are there any other features that make the egret II worth the extra cash compared to an impress, neo 29, neo candy, etc?

Any help is much appreciated.

well the egret 2 has suposedly stupid fast rotation, like pull a pin and rotate the monitor with 2 fingers. That said the Super Neo 29 Ihave heard does not sport the nicest of monitors. So here what I would do if Matsu has them:

Sega New Astro City (easy to get parts for) pretty easy to rotate the monitor Ive done it by myself its just heavy

and either a Capcom Impress or if he has one a regular Neo29

Just my opinion, but that may stay in your budget.

I'd get dual New Astro City setup if I were you.

1 Horizontal, 2 player 6 button panel.
1 Vertical, 1 player 3 button panel.

Very very common cabinet, and like Justin said, a breeze to snag parts for. Egrets are nice but pretty pricey when compared.

Stay away from Neo cabs unless you are dead set on owning one. I have both a Super Neo 29 and a Neo Candy 29, and parts are near impossible to find for either one. And when you do find the parts, they are stupid expensive. Also the monitors aren't as nice on either of the Neo's as on my New Astro.

Good info. so far, I had no idea that neo cabs were so difficult for parts. Looks like one of the two cabs might be a new astro city now. I've pretty much decided against an egret II as it doesn't seem to be worth more than twice as much to me. So, I guess I just need to find out what matsu has left and go from there. Any advice will still be very helpful.

I'll post some info, when I find out or decide.:)

Yeah go for astro cities dude. I have 3 of them and they're the shit. I absolutely love the flexibility of these cabs, and the ease of finding spare parts. Plus, you can tri-sync the montiors for about $200! w00t

Tri-Sync? As in three different resolutions?

That may not be the biggest plus for me, I'm too poor to own PCBs made after 2000 or so.:crying:

Yes three different resolution 15khz 24 khz and 31khz (the most important is 31khz its VGA so you can hook up anything a.k.a. dreamcast in my case directly into your cab)

not to thread-jack, but i'm also on the market for a cab.

what are your takes on an aero city? are they so cheap just because they're old? so the screen is not as big. is there other reasons? i know they're only 15khz, but i don't really need 24khz because i'll only be playing v-shooters. i know of someone selling a model 1 astro for 500+ which seems steep considering its also standard res. and aero's can be had for 350-400. please enlighten me.

Aeros are halfway decent, but to find one in good shape is a whole nother story.

Also, you might want to check and see if the Aeros can rotate counter-clockwise,since most shmups tend to rotate that way (most newer shmups no longer support the flip option).

I have two Aeros and they are decent cabinets, quite beat, but I am restoring one to be a dedicated vert and the other will probably find a new home soon. I flipped one vert so long ago I can't even remember if they flip that way. I seem to remember that they would and would say I'm 80% sure. If you need that information and you can't get it from a reliable source, PM me and I'd be glad to check.

Astro City Cabinets FTW! Although, I'd love to have two Egret II cabs. :crying: Seriously, those things are so sexy.

Ok, I've secured one and only one astro.

My choices for the second cab are now:

Windy II
Super Neo 29
Neo Candy
Hyper Neo Geo

Need some help quick so I can secure the last cabinet!:D

Go for the Windy II for the second cab. The control panels are interchangeable with astro panels, and they're pretty easy to 'tate. By the way, what model astro did you secure? Astro 1, New Astro or Astro 2?

I'd say pass on the SNK cabinets, unless you have your heart set on one. As Dub said, the parts are next to impossible to find, and if you can locate them, be prepared to pay out the ass.

Good luck!

Does anyone have some info or pictures of a windy II? Info on them seems pretty scarce. The issue is, it would come to the same price as an egret II:conf: It couldn't be as good could it? I'm either going to get a neo 29 or egret depending on how the pricing comes out.

I got a new astro.:D

If it's the same price as the Egret II, i'd get that.

I still say dual Astros. You will save a few $ too and can buy another PCB

Yea, I wish I could, but Matsu only has one.:crying:

I'll probably go for an egret II if I'm able to afford the total cost.

I remember hearing a friend say something about the Windy's having a rotatin mech similar to the Egret's.... can anyone confirm this?

If they don't and it costs teh same as the egret 2, get the egret.

Or, go with dub's suggestion and get twin astros and use some of the left over funds from some sweet PCB's. Just so you know the egret 2 and the Astro Cities have the same monitor, so the picture quality will be identical. I just personally think that a rotating mechanism isn't worth an extra $700, not to mention the control panels are FREAKIN HARD to find.

If you have the extra space, get the Sega Versus Cabs for head to head action!
