Ok I scaled down the logos, moved MVS onto the spine, and added a few more screen shots of the game.

I wanted to put a few blocks of text where is wasnt presently readable but noone had any suggestions on what to put.

Hope everyone likes it.

looks like ... it was done in less than 5 minutes.

Thanks for your opinion but it was posted for the purpose of getting constructive criticism not an estimation of the timeframe spent to make it.

eh?
where do you want me to start?

front :

- the neo geo logo isn't far enough from the spine.

- the cover artwork is turned by 90 degrees.

spine :

- the svc logo is not centered between the mvs logo and the neo geo logo.

- the neo geo logo is not centered in the 'black box'.

- the neo geo logo is missing the 'advanced entertainment system' thing ...

- the meg count box is too close to the bottom

- the mvs logo is too close to the meg count box

back :

- the snk and capcom logos on the back are not at the same 'height'.

- the small screenshots at the bottom are crap. that's the place for the 'this major meg cartridge is ...'

here's what a real insert looks like :

Fuck Me i don't know why any one bothers on this forum anymore! Hes only showing an insert! If you've spotted something wrong with it at least tell him in a nice and constructive way, theres no need to rip the piss out of him!

Hell, I think it looks great and definitely would use it for a Shock Box insert.

Nice work my man.

Well I am sorry I offended you with my "flawed" insert Mr. Dakis instead of correcting it I will delete any PDF files I may have of it immediately.

I know what real inserts look like but

1. Im not an SNK employee so regardless it will never be a real insert
2. You say the actual insert is better?
3. If you dont like it, you dont have to use it.

Again I do appreciate the comments regarding the errors thought.

come on now ...

just try to improve your inserts and keep in mind, that printing them ain't cheap. better put some more effort into it, before you notice that you could have done better.

1. Im not an SNK employee so regardless it will never be a real insert
that's not what i meant.
of course it'll never be a real insert, but you seemed to have tried to make it look like one.

2. You say the actual insert is better?
no. i already posted, that the actual insert looks like shit. imo it's the worst neo geo insert ever. (my favorite ones are jo kof2k1, jp kof99, jp ms3 & eu sam sho 3)

3. If you dont like it, you dont have to use it.
i only have one shock box. not worth it imo.

ok ... here's my first try, which took me about one week and is still not finished :

sb_motw.jpg

and that's what i did during the last 2.5 hours :

sb_svc.jpg

the back still has to be 'cleaned' and the snk-playmore logo has to be replaced with a better one. also the svc logo isn't perfect. i'd also have to find some better fonts ...
but ... i don't want to waste another 10 to 20 hours atm.

Nice job, if you dont mind would you tell me what text you used for the bottom in the black box? I asked in an earlier thread for suggestions on what to put but noone replied.

Truth be told I hate the screenshots there but I needed something

thx. but to be honest ... i still don't like the back (official artwork) and the white bg looks somewhat boring. imo. at first, i wanted to use a grey bg, but ... meh ... :annoyed:

well the pic of the legit insert is somewhat blurry. that's why i only replaced that one :

this_major_ngh.jpg

with that one :

this_major_mvs.jpg

the other stuff seems to be about the copyrights.
might be a good idea to ask a collector to put one of his games on the scanner. (i only have jp snap-lock cased games, sorry.)

I have a few US games so when I get home I am going to make some changes to the back as well as try to finish cleaning up the back.

Thanks

Nah he had valid points to make and I appreciate him voicing his opinions, I wouldn't have put the image up if I didnt want input.

Goose is a great guy and I respect his opinions but originally I do think he came across the wrong way but its cool he helped out alot with what I need to do.

By the way Goose I think thats your MOTW insert I am currently using, isn't it posted at neogeoforlife?

Thanks Mike and BB for the compliments, I know the back is very flawed and I am really thinking of going more back to my original design of using the character art off of the SVC site if I cant get the back fixed.

I don't see why it would be necessary to waste 10 hours making the insert. Everything doesn't have to be perfectly centered, exactly placed, and the absolute best resolution. As long as it's clean and overall looks nice, and most importantly, lets you know which game is which on your shelf, it's a good insert.

Yeh, I was kinda taken aback by what I read given the fact that there are NO RULES for "fan made" MVS inserts.
All efforts are very good imo. It's just the whole original SvCC back cover I'm not diggin' because it's..well... BORING.
Shame on SNKP for a weak illustration on the back cover!!

I THINK THE ART FOR THIS INSERT LOOKS GREAT GOOD JOB PLAYMORE. HOWEVER I HATE IT WHEN PEEPS SIMPLY DUPLICATE AN AES INSERT FOR SHOCK BOX INSERT. BOOOORRRRRIIINNNG. IE: WHY WASTE ALL THAT SPACE ON DISCLAIMER TEXT ETC? ITS FOR PRIVATE USE NO NEED TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK "OFFICIAL".

GOOD JOB THOUGH.

I wanted to stray a bit from the AES cart but keep the spine looking very similar thats why I originally went with the individual character art on the back first. Also I hate that art where it looks like Kyo is about to give Ryu a head job.

On top of that I also like the landscape style like KOF2000 and I think a game like this would be better presented as such.

i had to pay almost $10 just for printing my 'teh romz' insert and i won't spend $10 on an insert that isn't as good as possible.

i mean ... 10 inserts and 10 shock boxes are at least $150 to $200 and i own more than 10 games ...

God I wouldn't feel comfortable sending just sheets of paper across the state let alone overseas.

Unless you rolled them into a paper tube but more than likely it will costs the same amount for alot of work unless you are getting about 30 or so printed out.

*cough*

Thanks to Supergoose for the decent art for the cover. And sorry I didn't get other characters on the back BB, I used the best artwork I could find and yeah those characters are the best representations for each company in "mainstream" opinion anyway...;)
