I finally sat down and finished SVC Chaos just now with Dan Hibiki. I did not change the difficulty setting from the original MVS settings and I played through the game. I did have to continue and use the 1/3 life continue service when I reached Shin Akuma. Twice now I've played through the game and I've never been able to fight any of the other bosses and/or see the real ending. Do I need to not use the service, continue, or anything else?

I still haven't gotten the AES version, but I have been playing the hell out of the PS2 port. To fight Athena: First win each match using a special move. Second do not lose any rounds. If you lose a round just lose the next round and then continue. You can continue as many times as you want, you just have to win the matches without losing a round and with a special. After you fight Shin Gouki or Serious Mr. Karate you will be transported to Athena's Holy Place to fight Athena. I went backed and used the 1/3 energy assist after losing a match and was still able to fight Athena following the steps above. I fought Red Arremer once and for the life of me I cannot remember how I got to him. I think it might have been by winning a match by special move while my opponent was blocking. Hope this helps.

You must defeat either Athena or Red Arremer to see the real endings. Note you can save your progress at the last stage and such.

You can fight Athena for your ninth opponent if:

- You don't lose any rounds for stages 1 thru 7.
- You don't win any round via block damage
(this is when you hit an opponent with a special move or S^ move,
and they block it but still take a little bit of damage as a result).

You can fight Red Arremer for your ninth opponent if:

- You don't lose any rounds for stages 1 thru 7.
- You win at least 5 rounds with a special move (winning by block
damage is okay).

Otherwise, the game ends after the 8th stage. Obviously, you can do
whatever you like during the eighth stage and it won't affect the chance
of meeting Athena or Red Arrmer.

If you do lose a round during stages 1 thru 7, just lose completely
and continue, and you can still meet the Secret Bosses (since the key
is to not lose any _rounds_. It doesn't matter if you lose the whole
battle and continue).

Finally the number of continues and current game time have nothing to
do with fighting these characters.
