While it remains to be seen what the final version of the character will be, there's no denying Sagat is a very strong character. What does it say when a recent poll of the top fifty players on the tournament scene in Japan show that 21 players picked Sagat most frequently?
And I'm not nitpicking here, but I thought SSFIV wasn't getting an arcade release. By 'loke test', do you mean pre release playtesting for the console version? Or are they releasing this to arcades in the US?
Its funny, because sagat broke a rule that Daigo was amazing at getting around. What I mean is, when you watch him fight mago, if he does win, he just barely wins. What is required to win that match is literally ridiculous. Even Daigo gets lucky, and in a game that's entirely book, that still allows sagat dominance. I mean c'mon now. The character is a damage machine, has the best projectiles in the entire game. Has the best ultra cancel 50/50 tiger upper FADC forward/back, if link, then you just punish, if not, you can throw or wait. Has a sRH that shuts down rog and gief nearly free no matter how much you adapt. Gief is like a 8-2 match. Ontop of all of this he can kara cancel his fwdWK into tiger knee or upper or shot, and for some reason he can fake his sRH, and if you are good enough with reacting, you can do that, bait a jump and tiger upper for free.
Mago is a great player with a highly 'play feel' style, and the result is, even someone on daigo's level of adaptions can barely win this match.
I think it was console pre-release. I had two friends go to that, and my main local comp was saying sagat got better. I gotta play it ridiculously first to form any realistic opinions, but its a day one purchase for me and I can't wait to see how its evolved.
Tell you what dude, when this game hits the scene, lets do like 100 matches back to back and cycle around trying to feel out some changes to characters. Rose and Guile are two characters I wanna see in action now that they can do something..
I wouldn't mind sagat that much if his easy EX tigers and other free shit didn't take chunks of damage out, so you could force him off his 50/50 game, because the rewards aren't so large. My friend also said that sagat is fucked up in IV because he originally was a boss before seth was implemented and he retains the boss over powering. I don't know if I agree with that, but seeing the long term dominance of this character shows some legitimacy in that statement.
