So, I was able to watch the "Sucker Punch" Blu-Ray tonight. This is my second time. The movie is still bad, but I have some different observations my second time through...
It is still one of the most visually astounding pieces of filmmaking I've ever seen. Nearly every frame has the composition and mastery of a grand painting.
Zach Snyder is a phenomenal and "visionary" director.... but a awful writer. He should not be able to direct anything he has written.
The movie fails, but on the second viewing, I feel the blame of course lies on Snyder. But after that.... Emily Browning. (Babydoll). She is an absolutely awful actress. She is gorgeous just like her namesake, but would make a better still ...model than actress. Her expressions are plastic like a doll, her smile is always weak and forced, and she recites the lines as if she was reading something from a menu a fast as she can.

The best actor in this movie surprisingly enough.... The Pimp/Orderly "Blue Jones" (Played by Oscar Isaac). He was utterly detestable, he was loathsome, hateful, and downright repulsive. But he of all the actors in this film actually evoked the most emotion out of me. He did his job very well. He would rant and rave, and scream, and emote, pitch perfect. He nailed it. He delivered a phenomenal performance.

Carla Gugino is beautiful, and I would have liked to have seen more from her. I have a gigantic crush on Jamie Chung, and I would have loved to see more from Jon Hamm (Dr. Don Draper). Jenna Malone was very pretty, and was an aggressive badass, she seemed to enjoy it. Her Character seemed like a very big ripoff of "Appleseed" that Hair is impossible for human beings.

Another thing worth noting is there is a gigantic musical number that was shot but not used in the theatrical version. (I don't think), it is shown somewhat sporadically during the credit roll. I think it's pretty neat, doesn't really add anything to the film, but as usual is nice Eye Candy. (I Believe the un-edited cut of it is in the Special Features)

The 1080p video quality is undoubtedly gorgeous, (note my screen captures had to be compressed for the web, they look much better uncompressed and on a HDTV) and I think serious film collectors should consider buying it, and *everyone* should at least give this movie a rental (Blu-Ray if possible).

But I was a bit disappointed in the actual film Fidelity. The print contained a substantial amount of Film Grain, while not noticeable in the theaters and gives this digitally filmed movie a more "film-y" look, when transferred to a High Def... home device, it looks out of place, and detracts from the overall visual quality. Zach Snyder likes to use this grain effect on his films, in 300 it was massive, it was much much better in Watchmen, but in this one it is a bit much. I would have rather seen a RAZOR sharp crisp/non-molested digital transfer.
The Sound delivered a wide and exciting sound field, but I feel it lacked the necessary "punch" I would have liked and the surround effects were unsatisfying. For so many bullets and blades flying I would have really enjoyed having the sounds fly around my space (like Saving Private Ryan). And during certain epic shots like with the Chain Guns, I really feel the Sub should have kicked me in the pants. But instead it was barely there.

The movie is technically bad. But it is also very good... It's worth viewing.
This movie does make me concerned about Zach Snyder's upcoming "Superman" reboot: "Man of Steel". His confidence I think is probably lacking, and I'm sure his hollywood financiers are probably sweating. Superman is in a weakened state, just... like the country and ideals he presents. Marvel is fucking with the tried and true superman ideals/costumes, the last Superman film was a massive dissapointment, and Superman is no longer the big super hero on the block. (Batman is). There will be a untested actor, and a tarnished director at the helm... This could very well be the death of superman. (of course he will come back after hiatus just like in the books). But I am very concerned. Luckily David S Goyer is at the writing helm, he wrote the little movies Batman Begins and the Dark Knight, and the Dark Knight Rises. So he is clearly the man for the job.

As a sad note, I noticed during the credits that the movie is dedicated to Zach Snyder's deceased mother who passed away in 2010... It's a bit of a shame she will be remembered posthumously for one of her son's most notorious flops. :'(
Screengrabs: (Note Any JPEG Artifacting is because I didn't want to slam this thread with 30 Megs of PNGs. So any artifacting issues should not be present in the final release.)
