Fume Knight demolished me the first time I played DSII. (My main PvE weapon at that point was a Drakeblood Greatsword.) I blew through all my effigies and had to start running to the Shrine of Amana just to re-up my health bar when I'd get too hollow.

I was pretty consistently, across the series, the kind of dumbass that never leveled vigor, so I didn't give myself any room to make mistakes. (It wasn't until I decided to be a co-op summon for my wife in Elden Ring that I started focusing on it.)

Anyway, that's all just to say that the first times killing Kalameet, Fume Knight, and Gael have probably been my favorite moments playing video games, period.

(Sword Saint and Malenia were different, I think. There was definitely an element of "and stay down, MOTHERFUCKER" to those. I should play Sekiro again, now that I wouldn't be dropping frames left and right on an AMD FX chip and a GTX 760 like I was doing before.)

Progress continues. I rounded up all the knights for the fight against the king in Eleum Loyce. Will be trying it out today.

Skipped Sir Alonne fight at the topof Brune Tower. I'll either go back for him or retool/respec.

The two above fights are the only ones I haven't won in this game previously.

Completed Lucatiel's quest, got the trophy. Completed Benhart's quest, got the trophy.

Killed the Burnt Ivory King, first try. Four knights and two NPC summons besides. EZ clap.

The Loyce Knight soul doesn't seem to have a very good payoff this late in the game. I'm super impressed at how huge the zone for Eleum Loyce is, and you get to explore it a second time after all the ice goes away. But it's still way too heavy in ganks for my tastes.

Dark Souls II kinda sucks but somehow, I'm still engrossed with it.

Soft lock is pure faggetry, however. The worst thing about this game's mechs.

Finished.

Overall, a very easy game but I was probably overleveled for a lot of the last third of the game. Oh well, that is part of the charm of these types of games.

I'll probably grind a bit and build up a fast dark weapon to take on Sir Alonne. That's all I have to do and then I can retire it.

Did you bother with the sunken gank squad and the blue smelter demon?

I was hoping Steam would have had DS2 on sale on their Spring Sale, but looks like it's not.

I'm going to have to look for a physical copy next time I head to my retro shop.

Probably not since I don't know what you're referencing. What are these blue smelter demons and sunken gank hoes you speak of?

Brume Tower and Shulva have secret tunnels. They are the gankiest tunnels in the franchise. Blue smelter demon is at the end of the Brune tunnel and is like the regular smelter with fucked up timings.

Shulva tunnel has a gank squad boss consisting of a sniper , a samurai, and a Havel.

I bought it the last time it was on sale on steam but I’m pretty sure it was still like $20 for some reason.

I’m not sure what happened to my PS3 copy of the game. Honestly I probably threw it in the trash with my ps3 circa 2018.

I started up Dark Souls 3.

Ive tried getting through it but since I came in from Bloodborne it moves much too slow for me so had I stopped a while back. I just got to Faron Keep. Honestly the one thing that I hate about it right now is the poison swamp and wading through it to find those 3 damn fireplaces.

Found a huge wolf tho, so that was rad.

If there's one thing I could beat out of From Software, it would be their addiction to poisoning the players.

Fucking miserable in every game they put it in, which is almost every game.

Dark Souls III remains my favorite in the series. Elden Ring is the best game of its type. Sekiro is my favorite From Software thing ever.

Super annoying but there is a lot of stuff to be found in the swamp.

Yeah, that swamp is hands down the most miserable par of III. But that game is sublime for the most part.

I always find the mashing of worlds/time/space to be a little jarring but I mean that’s what the game is about lol. I prefer the more open/interconmected Dark Souls but 3 is a good game.

Elden Ring is my favorite of the genre for the exploration reasons.

Beat Sir Alonne yesterday, so I was able to make the full soul from the 12 fragments. He was a milestone for me because he's so difficult. Didn't beat him the first time I came across him, and that run to get to him is just so annoying.

Gathered up Havel's armor set. Forgot it was in the game.

Reset the Dragon Aerie a bunch of time with Bonfire Ascetics so I could farm mats to upgrade it. I'm hellbent on getting a 50 STR so I can actually just run around as Havel. With two equipment load rings and overleveled stats, it's easy going for the most part. Just want to crush people with the Dragon Tooth.

Beat blue Smelter Demon today. Fuck that fat rolling zone. Had to change to lighter armor but otherwise, not that hard. Especially with two NPC summons. The boss run isn't nearly as tedious as Sir Alonne's.

The one that throws an item on the ground and it says 'HELLO' and 'GOOD JOB' in a deep voice was surprising so it was funny.

Now it's just the covenant of Dark and Dark Lurker if I want to finish up (I think) all the content. I have over 40 Human Effigies so I'm good for multiple runs if necessary. But with Khazan coming out tomorrow, I'll probably just retire my game for now. New stuff to play.

@Taiso - Darklurker may suprise you a bit. He's a little contrived to get to but none of it's too hard, then he's a gank that basically gets a full double IIRC that can both throw out a bunch of bullshit AOEs and you just kind of have to YOLO it and win the DPS race. Quite satisfying to beat him though and to gain the full Covenant acceptance. And the fight does feel oddly fair at least.

And, ehhhh, Khazan's full release is out today (if you're willing to pay $10 extra, you also get a couple of decent early-game gear sets). It's, well, blatantly fucking obvious why the demo ended where it did. The area right after is a (VERY) lengthy zone, around an hour or so, where you run back and forth and find switches to stop a machine and unlock the second side of a locked door. Then you get to fight the Viper boss and try not to cut your own balls off instead. It's seriously a really, really bad boss fight. Esoterrick owns him as usual on YT and there are a few other (underwhelming) strats around, but it comes down to the guy having bizarre timings on at least 2/3 of his attacks, you only have 4 heals, and he has 2 full phases (f'ing Korean devs with multi-phase bosses, please stop this shit guys, it sucked in Lies and it sucks here). I'm leveled to I dunno. 30 or 32, guy is slotted as like an 18 recommendation, and he just continually obliterates me. I've seen him compared to Genichiro, Sword Saint, and Malenia already, and, fuck me, I can't help but think he's worse than all of them.

Doesn't help that the dumb little Spirit Ashes in Khazan just kinda look at the enemy and do yoga poses until they die.

This is just a terrible boss design. The leveling system in the game also sucks more and more as you get through it.

It's so badly designed that I think a major patch for that boss will come out on or before launch.

I'll keep playing it because I feel compelled to, but FOR THE LOVE please get Lies Overture out sooner than later R8, 'cause this ain't it.

edit: speaking of better games, what in the fuck is taking Game Science so damn long with their BMW DLC? They teased it as Chinese New Year release window, then didn't do that and basically just went silent. There's like 400 people in the world that own those Nvidia cards that the game is optimized for and it's not going up anytime soon, just bring that shit out and make some $ already.
