I think it's actually closer to the PCB/PSP version. Not sure, maybe someone else can weigh in.

I know there's a million versions out there of this game. I think the top 3 most popular are listed, so maybe we can just go with those.

I just fired up the Saturn version and my first question is about screen size.

Options show two different screen sizes: Arcade and Arcade Zoom, with Arcade Zoom filling the entire screen using what looks like a horizontal stretch, and Arcade having vertical "letterboxed" black bars on the left and right of the screen.

I'll probably play in Arcade mode for original experience... Thinking this through I went out and searched for pics of original Salamander Konami arcade cabinets to see how they played. Just found a few pics. Thought it would be cool to share.

No it doesn't. I'm not sure it matters. I have both versions. The PS1 version looks and sounds better. Gameplay is the same.

At first this game really pissed me off, but then I learned that you just need to know where to park your ship. So far the hardest part for me was getting through the pink goo on stage 1 without losing a ship.

This games really pushes you for the 1cc. Either you 1cc it, or you die quickly.

Quite an impressive game for 1986. Would be nice to watch some sort of documentary on shooters from this era and learn about the history. Anyone know of something along these lines and can share?

I'm starting to really enjoy the game. It's been quite a long time since playing Nemesis on GameBoy back in the day.

I have also been cursing this game. I watched a 1cc video and saw what to do. After that it's not too bad.

Also, I found this pretty cool OVA. Who knew Gradius/Nemesis/Salamander had an anime!?
