Strategy guide:

1) This is not similation.
2) Get ready to desotroy the enemy.
3) Target for the weak points of f**kin' machine.
4) Do your best you have ever done.

ebinsugewa - 3,671,170 - 1-4 - 54 hit - C - WolfMAME .185

Will post something much better on the PCB soon, just want to get the first score out there!

Quick tips:

BOMB! Your bombs get refilled at the end of the stage (edit: this might only be in the world version). There are points incentives to not bomb (huge capacity bonus later in the game) but if you can't survive long enough to score, what difference does it make? You can get pretty far into the first loop just bombing.

On that note, prepare your bombs. Both in the sense that you should use planned bombs at certain parts of the stage you have difficulty with, and also due to the bomb delay being slightly longer in Donpachi compared to most modern games. You'll want to anticipate having to panic bomb a second or so before you need to in order to press the button.

Side note: If you're having trouble with chaining, try using the B ship (green).

Saturn J seems to default to one difficulty below normal, I take it I should change it from "little easy" to normal right?

El guambianito le esta dando duro...

I gave it a run last night, brought the PCB over to my friend's EII, was a good time, everyone gave it a run but just once, game is exhausting when you're done with a run, I just didn't have it in me to try another but I'll give it another shot tonight on my NAC.

Nice run. I've been meaning to credit feed the game just to do some practice runs at some point before going for score. C ship seems to be the go getter for hits.

Do you happen to know how the rank works in this one?

Thanks, I made good use of the bombs until my last life which I squandered with lots of bombs in stock...aarrggghh! Better luck next time I hope.

C ship petty much covers the screen better, hit wise, I didn't shoot for a combo, I just played for survival, the first 2 stages I can get almost all the bees, specially on the 1st stage.

Rank is determined by how long the player has stayed alive, and if they have used a bomb. If the player has used a bomb, then it becomes how many they have in their total stock, and how many they have used. The Rank decreases by one level (if possible) when a player loses a life, and is automatically set to Easy when the player is on their last life.

I FINALLY got my PCB today, it was held by customs...

It is the Japanese version and i can confirm that the bombs DO NOT fully refill at the beginning of a new stage. You get additional bombs, but not full refill. This makes a huge difference in terms of difficulty, please consider this.

Yeah I was thinking we should pick a region and stick with it for everyone.

The bomb refill isn't a complete one for any board. It refills depending on how many lives you have left. The less you have the more it refills, the thing is, your bomb slot count also changes depending on your pickups, sometimes you'll have 4 or 5 slots but you were only refilled 2 bombs, usually happens with a no miss run. It works sorta like DOJ shota bomb stock.

Yeah Japan version scores should be kept separate technically speaking. If you have only the world PCB and would prefer to play on that, go ahead I guess, but everyone else stick to the JP version.

I'll dig into the differences more at some point.

ebinsugewa - 4,015,650 - 1-4 - 76 hit - C - PCB (Japan)

Sick combo but I basically instantly lost a life again after dying in stage 4. Need to practice that more.

I found a different information about the subject:

"The Japanese DP only gives you the same number of bombs as the stage number after you complete a level (1 bomb after stage 1, 2 after 2, etc) while the US version refills your entire bomb stock after each stage"
