As much as we wanted to believe it was only Microsoft, we knew this was coming.

Launch prices:

PlayStation 5 – $499.99
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $399.99
PlayStation 5 Pro – $699.99

Nintendo has held the line on Switch 2 so far, but they did raise prices on Switch 1

It's just passing the buck down to the consumer, standard economic faggetry. We always get stuck with the bill but getting bent out of shape about it when it's what they've always done is pretty silly. We live in an economy.

I watched that Tom and Jerry movie in the theater when I was a kid and it was dogshit but I have to admit that the meme clippers did find the few seconds worth salvaging from it here. Tony Jay's voice and the smile spreading across his face, even though he's afraid he's on the verge of losing everything in this scene, because he's just so money-horny he forgets what he was talking about. It's a gem.

But I thought the companies would pay for the tariffs!

I'd go as far to say its joeover for anything abroad. Its pretty much joe-ever for doll collecting plastic with de mimi gone and tariffs.

Just one of many industries caught in the cross fires. For the people who didn't grab a PS5 you are not missing much other than worse remakes of already existing games.

Trump is making America great again for his friends to buy the dips in the stock market. Enjoy the any % WR glitch speedrun of a failing economy.

Who the fuck cares. Most people who want one have already got one. Not as if those people, the sane ones anyway, are going to double dip.
Probably no one here, but I imagine most continuing sales of years-old consoles are casuals buying it for a specific game, or kids growing into one. It must be harder these days compared to when you could get a new Sega Genesis Core system for $90 US at retail.

Plenty of refurb systems around for the casual gamer at the likes of Gamestop - why would you buy a brand new system if you only intended to tat on it when the mood suited? I'd just buy a nice boxed 2nd hand system if the saving was big enough.

That’s $600 after taxes for a base PS5, a system that’s been on the market for 5 years. That’s absolutely ridiculous.

The attitude of “who cares I got mine” and “lol poors” from a lot of people is very telling.

When was the last time we saw any console get a price increase this far in to the life cycle?

Besides Microsoft and Nintendo raising their prices earlier this year, I don't think it's happened.

The closest comparison is when they release an upgraded model that is more expensive than the older one, which gets discontinued. But I can't recall the last time they just straight up raised the price on an existing model.

I don't think we ever have, but we also rarely (if ever...) see a console remain at its launch price for this long so we're checking off a couple of boxes here.

That’s sort of what I was thinking - it hasn’t happened before.

Where are PlayStations being manufactured?

How are American tariffs causing an increase in price?

All consoles from all manufacturers are made in China, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and/or Cambodia.
