Not sure if this has been posted before as the news has been on www.the-magicbox.com for a few days now but anyway.....

- UNCONFIRMED: Capcom is planning to release the PS2 port of Viewtiful Joe in Japan during the second half of 2004, the PS2 version will have new elements such as new difficulty levels for beginners. Capcom does not have current plans to bring the game in US, because SCEA has rejected both Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7 for America release.

Metal Slug 3 being rejected I can kinda understand from a retarded-soulless-coporate-suit point of view, but rejecting 2 of the most stylish-looking 3D games (one of which is critically acclaimed) out there is beyond dumb.

I'm starting to feel sorry for you Americans..........

I really don't understand this. If Sony is all about quality control, or whatever bullshit they want to think they're doing, then why don't they practice that same bullshit on their systems that fart every two years. I really want to understand this. I do. I don't think I ever will, though.

I guess (for me anyway), it's kind of like buying a car you really like, but being swindled by the salesman who sold it to you...

when it runs well you're on cloud 9, driving with the top down getting stares from the chicks...
but then it starts raining and all of a sudden the top gets stuck and the stereo keeps skipping on your favorite CD and the stupid indicator lights keep coming on...

and no matter how many times it happens, it always pisses you off...

A) Unconfirmed

B) If Capcom wants to release these in America, they WILL release these in America. They have plenty of pull with Sony...

C) The whole concept has never been about quality control - it's a shelf space issue.

A) you're right, and it's still early to get bent out of shape...a lot can still happen

B) I wouldn't be too sure about this, though

C) Exactly right. This is a concern with all platforms. I'm still waiting for a game I did box art for 2 years ago to be released for GBA. In other industries, I've noticed this becoming a bigger problem with DVDs as well. Many smaller movie releases are just not carried by larger chains because they don't have the shelf space to sacrifice from the mindless summer blockbusters they know the drones will buy.

Southtownkid,

Wow, you worked on a GBA cover box? Still not out yet after 2 years? Dang. I know what you mean about this stuff. I worked on some kids game packaging and we shelved a couple of titles because we couldn't get retailers to carry them. I remember folding them damn boxes too!

I think Sony is slowly becoming the Old Nintendo and Nintendo is becoming the Old Sony. Its weird how one company is on top for one console or two and the next is humbled by another console. Sony better rethink their strategy a little or they will go down in flames one day.

The two go hand in hand.

Its an issue of... SONY SUCKS.
:)

I have been saying it for years... and I will continue saying it.

and it will be their downfall someday.

I hope Capcom gets their head out and learns to keep their stuff with Cube... (not the Xbox... because I don't want it to go there).

BTW.... Sony had no reason to reject Ms3. It would have sold decently. I know MANY people that were going to buy it for the Ps2.... MANY.

They never rejected Msx.
they didn't reject KOF 2000/2001 recently for the Ps2.

They just have messed up corporate policies. I hope it comes back to eat them in the near future.

Shelf Space? so... there is a reason why they couldn't move (some retarded) ATV FURY (mindless drival) that does not sell for Viewtiful Joe? they know that Viewtiful Joe will sell and well all know it will sell more than 1/2 the games on the shelf.

i equate it to asking your parents to buy you something when you were a little kid. the first time they say "no," you're really bummed. the second time they say "no," you're a little bum. after repeatedly asking them, and they keep saying "no," it comes to a point where you really shouldn't feel bummed anymore because, "what else is new?"

It clearly says unconfirmed. Theres a chance that's it's not true at all.

Your joking right? Atari's games suck.

they were cool enough to bring over ikaruga to the gamecube.

Meh, fuck Sony. I'll buy a budget unit when it gets released so I can play VF4 Evo, but that's about it.

And I don't get all the bs about shelf space. Not all games are available in the isles of all Wal-Mart stores - some you've got to order through shops on the internet. If they want to whore out their shelf space to every Matrix clusterfuck sequel that comes down the pike - that's fine - but at least make the cool games available at some level.

I remember back when they didn't approve Soul Hackers because it's release date was during the same week as Grandia. :buttrock:

Well, to be fair, most of those would have sold like shit. I mean, as much as I would have loved to see Samsho 5 come out over here, it wouldn't have made them any money.

Where did you get this from?

If I remember correctly, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare was release on the PS1. Everblue 2 is on PS2, nuff said. Space Channel 5 Pt2 was released with the first one in a double pack. Last I heard, SSV is still seeking approval. I saw a preview of Broken Sword on PSM a couple of months back. Ether if got disaproved or not i'm not sure of. EGM stated that KOF2002 is being released on PS2 in the Summer.

Must not forget the most egregious oversight SCEA ever made: passing on a domestic Tobal 2 release. Sad, sad, sad...
