Sonic Wings 2 and consolzied 2-slot controller port issues

Was wondering if any one else ran into this issue with this game. On my consolized 2-Slot the game will not let me use the controller ports to play. Start and Select work, as far as starting a game goes, and for switching back and forth between carts, but once you actually start a game in Sonic Wings 2 you cant do anything else. A,B,C,D, and up, down, left, right are unresponsive. They do work via the jamma harness area though. The bios in my 2-slot is the original. Back up battery has been disabled.

So was wondering if this was a common problem? Is it also directly related to MVS mode, as in, if I had a uni-bios installed and ran the game in AES mode, would that fix the issue?

Likely clearing the backup RAM.

Back up ram was the problem. Clearing it fixed the issue.
