So after a number of years, I played and beat MGS again.

Want to borrow Twin Snakes?

That'd be great.

I can't find this game locally at all.

Probably could if I branched out a bit more, but I was just going to put up a "WTB" at this place.

Do you still know my address or would you need it again?

I've said it before and I hold it to be true today.

Metal Gear Solid for the PSX is the greatest video game ever made. It was light years ahead of everything else that came before it, and there are game designers working TODAY, ten years later or whatever, that can't make a game as good as that. It's not my personal 'favorite' (that would be the Resident Evil series), but just as I, as a Cubs fan, must recognize Albert Pujols or Alex Rodriguez as the best players in the game today, I as a Resident Evil fan acknowledge that MGS is just superior.

I also enjoyed Twin Snakes immensely, but the MGS2 style gameplay and enemy AI is not suited to the smaller environments of MGS. Granted, I think the story was better and more complete, and I had NO problems with the crazy action cutscenes whatsoever (if Solid Snake is of the same ilk as Foxhound, why shouldn't he be able to do some of the same stuff?). Twin Snakes is simply the better version of the story, from the cutscenes to the dialogue to the presentation. Period. The gameplay is 'really good', but it's not as balanced as it is in MGS.

So it really depends on why you play MGS. If you play for the storyline and characters, then you absolutely MUST play Twin Snakes, because that is the official version of the story in terms of continuity. Bear in mind that the story of the original MGS is not really all that different from Twin Snakes, but Twin Snakes is a more grand presentation. Personally, I recommend you play Twin Snakes right now. With MGS so fresh in your mind, it will be easier for you to pick up the idfferences if you are playing to enjoy the story.

But if gameplay is all you play for, stick with the original. Much more balanced version.

Yeah, because those games are very similar to each other. :spock:

If you like Lucas Arts adventure games, you'll like Snatcher. I do LOVE Snatcher, but it's nothing like Metal Gear Solid.

Yeah, the only thing they have in common is Kojima's dirty humor. But Snatcher is still a really good game.

I think I still have the box you sent Twin Peaks in, but I'll let you know.

Twin Snakes is a fun playthrough, since it's a different play experience compared to the original MGS. But, overall, it's not really necessary to play through before 2.

I like GC version better than PSX original.
Love Matrix-style intermissions.........

Finally beat the PS1 version today.

The game isn't perfect, but it is pretty damn close.

The only real complaint I have is the Hind fight. It drags on for way too long. It is also dumb the way you can lock on to the Hind AND hit it with a stinger when the chopper is flying at a lower altitude, yet it does no damage. Again just dragging things out.

Other than that there is some padding and backtracking (PSG1, torture chamber all the way back at the start etc), but it isn't excessive.

Oh, and in the JPN version, pretty much the only thing the grunts can say is, 'Ki no sei ka?', in this kind of camp voice. This rather odd and distinctive recording is then used for all guards.

Beyond that though, spot on. Awesome stuff. Will be going back for another run soon.

They didn't say much in the US version either. "What was that noise?" "Hm..." "What was that?" think that was about it. I can see what you mean with the hind, sometimes it only takes a few minutes, sometimes it just goes on for way too long. I always thought the repel was pretty pointless, and I was annoyed with the door right after that trips the alarm no matter what.

Been playing MGS3 for the last couple days. Fuck I love this game. Snake it just THE ultimate bad-ass, and the feeling of this game is top-notch. MGS4 will probably be the greatest game ever.

Just about to beat MGS2.

I don't care what people say but I like Raiden.

(He's got nothing on Vamp though.)

He's no Snake [Plisken], but I can be somewhat sympathetic to his situation.

Still though, like MGS, it's a kickass game even though it's just a tad bit confusing in the storyline department.

MGS has to be one of the best examples of a perfectly crafted game and the dated PSX look takes nothing away from that.

I haven't played the game in a couple of years (beat it twice) and have owned Twin Snakes for about the same time frame and never played it yet.

None of the sequels can hold a candle to it thus far.

As for MGS3, I've tried playing it but found the outdoor environments too hard for me. Quit playing it midway over a year ago.

I seriously recommend that you keep playing. It really is worth it.

Yeah, the repel is totally pointless, and almost seems like it was pasted in from a different game, but thankfully it is pretty painless and over really quickly.

The door that trips the alarm, followed by carnage in the stairwell? Well, there aren't that many sections in the game where you are forced to fight the grunts, so I guess it makes for a bit of variety, plus a chance to play with some of the items you have collected, or alternatively, just let rip with the FAMAS.

Probably put in there so ascending the second tower wasn't just running in silence.

Yeah. Then in the other tower you have the 'surprise' of surveillance cam clusters.

I think the ideas work given the environments.
