So after a number of years, I played and beat MGS again.

There's a few games that come mind when thinking of "perfect" games and this has got to be one of them.

Really, everything about the game is just top-notch.

The story, dialogue and characters especially.

Very few games are made where you actually give a shit about the characters and what happens to them but MGS more than seems to make up for those games with its almost overwhelming sympathizable (<-- I don't believe that's a word but I'm making it one for now) "human" characters.

Easily one of the most engrossing storylines in all of gaming.

Obviously what I'm saying is of no surprise, but having not played through the game since however many years it's been since it first came out (beat it twice then), I had honestly forgotten what an amazing piece of software it is.

Going to be going through the others soon as well, as I haven't played through them in a long time either (although not as long as it had been since MGS.)

Also, how's the GC remake(?) Twin Snakes?

Is it worth checking out before I move on to the next game?

I honestly could not tolerate the GC version for more than an hour.

The PSX version is the ONLY version.

And I agree - still a top notch game. A classic.

Twin Snakes is a fun playthrough, since it's a different play experience compared to the original MGS. But, overall, it's not really necessary to play through before 2.

I thought, and still think, that Twin Snakes is awesome as hell. I love it.

Skip Twin Snakes, unless you're a fan of Ryuhei Kitamura.

Suspension of Disbelief

Gladly some people enjoy the whole game as a "package", instead of whining about the cutscenes, and only caring about the gameplay.

I can careless about the cutscenes, it's just that I prefer Kojima's direction above all else when it comes to Metal Gear.

You do realize that TS plays quite different than the original too, right?

I was actually referring to the Metal Gear Solid series as a whole.

Both versions are great indeed.

I played Twin Snakes and had never played MGS2. It had also been several years since playing the original PSX version and I had just as much fun as I did with the original. In fact, I didn't really even notice what was changed in Twin Snakes.

I always wondered how good this game was played via Bleem on Dreamcast. I still have the Bleem disc that I never got around to using.

The GC version sucks because of the shit GC controller - end of story.

Never played Twin Snakes, but I can look at the screens and feel that something seems...off.

Silicon Knights were not the right people to handle it.

I find it hilarious that they re-did the voice acting for God knows why, yet half-assed the CODEC portraits by keeping them the same.

Mixed bag about Twin Snakes, huh?

I don't know, the information I saw didn't make me think much about it.

It looked pretty on the GC hardware but the idea of new dialogue and scenes actually turned me away from it more than anything--was never a fan of those types of additions in films I've enjoyed and the same would go for MGS.

I'll probably go through it another time then because I am kind of psyched to go through Sons of Liberty again.

I just finished Twin Snakes myself yesterday for the first time, I never played the first MGS, but from I can tell Twin Snakes is the worst of the three. The cut scenes are majorly over the top and the deaths of all the FOXHOUND people are really fucking drawn out and sappy. I don't care about Sniper Wolf's past, or Raven the Hunter's beliefs, it just dragged. The game is excellent, and the cutscenes were still amazing, but just way over the top. Snake does SOOO much matrix shit it's crazy. The dialog for the most part is great with a few corny spots here and there.

Overall Snake Eater is by far my favorite, but SOL (haha funny how that worked) is still excellent. Twin Snakes is still an AMAZING game, but doesn't seem to fit as well. I'd say the MGS series is probably my favorite series of video games ever. MGS4 is just going to be fucking epic beyond belief.

MGS2 is one of the greatest games of all time

hmmm, I need to see these cutscenes one day

in a game about cybernetic ninjas from beyond the grave, a guy who can drain a person's body and then steal their identity, and all this other crazy stuff

something tells me stylized slo-mo cutscenes aren't that bad

This is your average LoneSage post:

I haven't played/seen/read this game/book/comic/cartoon/movie but here's what I think about it anyway.

MGS:TT is freakin' great.

MGS proper still holds up though. Good times.
