I have taken to calling them "puzzleformers" for lack of a better term, but I was wondering if there was an "official" terminology for games of this style.

Those are all great games. Zupapa is another great one as well. I don't know that I have ever seen a term that describes these types of games other than action puzzle, which is boring and too basic.

When it comes to puzzle games this type of game is by far my favorite and they usually offer great co-op/competition as well.

I wanted to throw Bubble Bobble in this discussion as well. I recall Taito and Nintendo advertising it as a platformer, but it definitely fits this unique genre that needs further distinction.

Sincerely,

Mikhail

Tumble pop also added to the pile, I will also claim it to be a platform due to in all the games there are platforms, though there 's one screen.

This explanation makes the most sense.

When I used to re-Arange my NES games, I would put them down as something similar to that......

A game like Mario bros. I would call it action platformer even though they are in a puzzle environment puzzle solving isn't the foundation like zelda. Even though I never played snow brothers it appears to be the same and so does bubble bobble.

perhaps we should make a list of the must-play SSP.
