SNK Game Downloads for PS3

In a little SNK related news..

SNK Playmore's director Soichiro Hosoya mentioned that the company will be providing NeoGeo classic titles such as the King of Fighters and Metal Slug series for PlayStation 3, the games can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store.

Some free online action would be most welcome.

When I re-read this related news and I don't think it makes any sense....
SNKDelaymore will provide "KOF" & "Metal Slug" series download for PS3, then what the hell they keep releasing those titles (metal slug anthology) on PS2 then?
Doesn't PS3 is backward compatible with PS2 game?

I have KoF Orochi & FF Battle Archives and both have online options.
