If they're gonna use a tv, the should have just made a unit that hooks up to one.

This crap product will probably hurt the chances of seeing a decent SNK multi-game.

Cool idea, poor execution.

KoF '95 should be KoF '96, Samurai Shodown should be Samurai Shodown II, Metal Slug 2 should be Metal Slug X, and Top Players Gold should be Neo Turfmasters.

You know, I read your post and thought you were just bitching to bitch, but then after Sam Shodown and beyond, you're 100% right. Every single game you're 100% right.

I think the casing it's in looks all right... I guess. It would be cool if somebody somehow made a real Neo out of one though...

Been done, quite beautifully actually. One sold on ebay recently, it was a 1 slot in an old poker countertop game. Link anyone? Search the General Discussion boards for it. Its cool.

meh

this thing is retarded....there are much better ways to spend $500 imo....just get a big red for cheap and choose the games you want to play. The design is cool though, only for the collector

I still think a Neo Geo plug-and-play modeled after the Atari Flashback 2 would be the bee's knees. Style the thing after an AES unit, make perfect replicas of Neo CD pads that can work with old Neo systems, throw ten games on it, include a removable SD memory slot for game upgrades, and sell the whole thing for $40-$50 with game cards $20 each. It would be great, I tell ya! :drool_2:

Like nort said, I think the shell looks really cool. I don't understand why anyone think it's bad that it weighs 60 pounds; sounds good to me.

But, $500.

SNK

I have one of the SNK tabletops and I am happy with it.

When I first got it I did have problems with a few of the buttons and had to fix them. Luckily I had extra arcade parts to be able to fix the problems myself.

Right now I am tring to expand the unit. The games are stored on a 64mb SD card encrypted in master.img file. I can not crack the password to get inside the file. I am able to copy the file to my computer and put it on a larger SD card and run it from there. If anyone can figure out the password or has the password please let me know. Once I have the password that Im pretty sure addition games can be added. I can see the files inside and they match the orginal rom files (from my mame collection) with the addition of some other files.

I am also looking for the Taito master.img file if anyone has that. I am positive that will play on this unit since it is all jamma.

For those of you who actually bought or played this set-up...

1) The 1 and 2 player joysticks and buttons are too close to each other.
Really hard to play 2-player games, especially with Metal Slug 2 pounding.

2) Monitor is too small!

3) The right joystick stopped moving "right" after a month.
Needed a new switch! (not sure about the quality of the parts).

4) Maybe if you send them another $500, they'll send you the bottom of the cab :eek_2:

Would you care to take some pics of the inside of the machine?

I'm really interested to see how this thing is setup inside.

Fuck it, get the real thing!:spock:
While I agree (and I do have the real thing), if I was able to find this thing locally for < $100, I'd buy it to tinker with. It's Jamma compatible, and from the sound of it, user upgradeable (once someone cracks the password).

For that price you might as well get a real cab, better monitor, better controls etc etc

Wow! The PCB is just an Intel XScale CPU with a small amount of memory.

This is literally an emulator running on PDA-like hardware.

I have one made by Hanaho that has the same games on an SD Card, but it has an actual arcade monitor in it and runs through a JAMMA interface. I took pics and posted them here a while back. Mine was only $165 off of eBay, and well worth it. The cabinet is made of actual particle board, like any other arcade unit.

Don't know what the one at Target is, but it certainly isn't the one that I've got. I hooked up an MVS-1B to mine, and it worked like a champ. The one I have is here:

EDIT: That is the same one I have. It's made by a different manufacturer than the crap-ola Midway ones that they had before. If you don't have first hand knowledge of a product, don't start rumors that aren't true.
