Never ending house adventures:

The appraisal got done "wrong" initially. Now that it's redone correctly, we should get a reasonable budget for the improvements and renovations we wanted to do. This was the best news of the past few weeks.

In other news, the stock market sucks, and my retirement company sent me 30% less money than I "ordered" for my withdraw. This is already accounting for penalties/fees as far as I know. The check got here today, a Saturday, so I have to wait till Monday to sort this out. The house is still "ours," but pending what I find out Monday, my down payment on my loan may not be as nice as I wanted.

If I get hosed Monday (i.e. if unforeseen circumstances or regulations caused the shortage in my FHA withdraw), I may have to sell some choice PCBs etc., because let's be real, a house is a lot more important than my game collection. I hope it does not come to this, but it might.

I have it budgeted out either way; we are very hopeful the retirement acct check shortage was an honest and reparable mistake. I did make sure the [remainder of the] money is still in the accounts that it was supposed to come out of.

Nothing is catastrophic, hopefully this is just documenting the adventure of buying a house for the 1st time, and all the ways other people can help you lose sleep even when your paperwork is in order.

Hopefully everything falls into place. It would suck if the money was pulled out during a drop/slide in the market, and then recovered the next day.

I'll list out stuff tomorrow if needed. Hoping honestly that it's not needed.

If I do put things up it will be along the lines of JVS era motherboard / cart / disc type stuff.

Bro goes through hard times, reaches out and immediately gets poached on. Can't decide if this is worse than e-begging.
Also, if skate decides to sell stuff everybody should pay more than asking prices. Help a guy out guys.

Thanks for the kind words.

Still sorting the retirement acct but my money is there and vested. Should be OK given this info. Still no answer why it was not there in the 1st check but all are hopeful it will be resolved.

Never a dull moment.

Apparently my retirement company lied, cannot send me the rest of my money, and that's pretty much that. I knew there had to be some issue with vested balances or plan types, and though their website says I have thousands left to withdraw, they won't process it. I prefer not to really go into details there but it comes down to IRS limitation their site was unaware of.

That's the bad news.

The good news is we dropped the 203K from our FHA. The house is livable and due to contractors, consultants, and banks all dragging ass, it makes way more sense to remodel it ourselves and take the cheaper mortgage in the mean time. Our monthly expenses will be much more manageable at the new place.

So that's the good news. The house is going to be ours. The bad news, reiterated, is that my retirement company website downright lied to my face on the funds I could take.

At this point, I may want to auction off a few things, but I really hate "flipping for profit" on principle. I'll have to sleep on this one.

All in all we (me, my family) will be ok, we will get our house, this is coming down to money for movers etc. that I was told for months was mine to use, and is not. A tough spot, but if anyone knows how to skate by, my wife and I have this. Thanks guys for the support in this rollercoaster of a time period in my life.

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE.

I have closed on my house :D

FHA came through. 203k renovation turned out to be way more costly than anticipated, so we took the house basically "at asking" and we're doing the minor facelifts it needs (paint, floors). The retirement account then became a non issue as the down payment needed became much smaller [due to renovations not being in the mortgage].

I should have the new dungeon.... I mean arcade.... up sooner than later.

For those playing along at home:

Loading bar for new house is a solid 75%. We have appliances ordered, all that fun stuff. Already moved a 15ft truck full of arcade and music equipment >_<

I have professional movers (good ones) coming Monday, and all my cabs are out of the rental sex dungeon and back in their respective singular pieces. I plan on letting the insured movers take the cabinets to the new place.

I have a 1st floor room we're making into laundry and arcade. It was already hooked up previously as 1st floor laundry. It pays homage to a joint I liked in NOLA where you could literally do your laundry at this bar, and order food or play pool and pinball while you waited.

Congrats on finalizing the home purchase. Looking to purchase my own home in the next year using money from my 401k (loan) so hope all goes as well as humanly possible.
