Believe me it's worth an own thread. Only played the House of the Dead Remake so far but it's hilarious fun! :buttrock:

@Neorebel

It's not necessarily plug and play on Windows 11 but the wiki is great:

Thank you so much for this - I actually have a Pi4 - this "BareBones" could be exactly what I am looking for!!

Quick question - out of the modern lightguns available, what made you choose the Sinden? I haven't really looked much into any of them, although the Retroshooter RS3 Reaper caught my eye. Seems like the benefit of the Sinden is no sensor required and a bit lower price

It's actually a good story. I still had a 'basket' for everything I needed to finally mod my Virtua Stick High Grade.
But Small Cab showed me the Sinden. I deleted my basket and bought the most expensive light gun they had.

Last time I played light gun games was on the PS3/Wii. I love this shit!

Yeah man I loved light gun games when I was a kid. Not just PS1 and PS2 stuff, which were all great, but even now I wouldn't mind playing SNES Battleclash and Metal Combat again. What are some games you're looking forward to playing again?

PS2 Vampire Night, maaaannn I was so freaking excited for that one. I remember waiting for that to come out for what felt like an eternity. When I finally got it, I was kinda disappointed, but it grew on me and I became obsessed with it. Played it for a month straight every day after school.

I've had my eye on these for years. I need to look into the Linux drivers, since my Windows clock is ticking. That would also theoretically let me use it on both my gaming PC and my VCS.

I actually still have all my retro consoles and these respective light guns, so it would be the arcade exclusives, particularly the newer ones

I got the PS2 Vampire Night with the GunCon, busted that out recently!

Teknoparrot has some of the “newer” gun games on it like Terminator, Aliens, Transfomers and HOTD. I haven’t played them all yet but some are pretty fun :vik:

I have an Ultimarc Aimtrak that I've probably used more as a PS2 Guncon than a Mame gun. I put the guts in one of those Time Crisis knockoff recoil guns and it worked great. The PS2 had a ton of great Guncon games. If someone was interested in playing them on a modern display I would highly recommend an Aimtrak if they're still available.

My wife really likes light gun games, but we usually just play the stuff on the Wii when she gets the itch,.
I want to get us a set of these, but I need something with little fuss.

Ive considered a Sinden. I heard AimTrak is not as good because it requires a bar like the wiimotes. But even looking at their site, the price for a non-recoil isnt too bad at $115USD, but for a TimeCrisis pedal they want almost $300.

Do any of the buttons on the gun itself simulate the pedal?

If you were asking about the Aimtrak, yes the two buttons on it can work as whatever you assign them to in your emulator, or work as the A & B buttons when in PS2 Guncon 2 mode. It doesn't have the d-pad or extra start and select buttons that a normal Guncon 2 have, so you can't play the Resident Evil shooter (and I think one other PS2 game), but the rest of the PS2 shooter library works fine with it. It does require a bar like the Wiimote though.

With the original Guncon for PS1, you could put any type of controller into the P2 port and any input on it would operate as a foot pedal. That might still be the case with PS2 games but I'm not for sure.

I don't know about the Sinden but I bought a RetroShooter (works with 4 IR receivers) and that thing is awesome, and dare I say as accurate as a well calibrated gun arcade cab. I only stopped putting hours on it because I moved and I don't have a PC next to the TV with the IR sensors anymore, I need to fix that.

Instead of downloading those ready made packs I just downloaded MAME and set it up myself, it was not too difficult. Figuring out how force feedback could be set up was a bit annoying because it seems like the most popular option to hook the gun to MAME ffb is a poorly programmed POS, but this one worked wonders for me: https://hotr.6bolt.com/ its too bad there aren't ready made configuration files for some games yet.

Man, playing Operation Wolf and Time Crisis with that thing by itself was worth the price of admission.

I'm kind of on the fence between Sinden & Retroshooter Reaper. Seems like the situation is Sinden = no sensors but may be a lil less accurate but easier to set up in every sense including software wise, Reaper = more accurate, cheaper pedals, more of a pain. I think I kind of need to wait until I feel like springing for a MiniPC as well for the living room because I forgot that the Pi4 can't do a fair bit of arcade systems even when overclocked

But its tempting just to get one non recoil Sinden on a whim and try it with the Pi I already have as an impulse buy, its a fairly cheap experiment

I was referring to the sinden but I definitely appreciate the info on the aimtrak. I mainly want a gun to play arcade shooters like HOTD series, and whatever else is on Teknoparrot, or Batocera etc.

I have no experience emulating Guncon games on a PC so I don't know if they would perform as well as an actual PlayStation 1/2, but I'd recommend arcade fans to try out Gunfighter on the PS1 and its PAL-only sequel on the PS2. They were made by Rebellion and are basically Time Crisis set in the Old West. The PS2 Virtua Cop double pack also seems to be better than the arcade originals from what I can tell.

In case anyone is using old hardware and CRTs, most of the 3rd party guns have a 3.5mm jack on the bottom so you can use a Guitar Hero or Rock Band bass drum pedal as a foot pedal.
