Should I get a Neo Geo?

I have enough store credit saved up for a complete Neo Geo with box and instructions at www.thegametrader.com, but should I get one? While going through the discussion boards here, I've noticed that owning a Neo Geo seems very complicated and I don't have a clue as to what people are talking about. With people mentioning MVS carts and conversions, I just feel lost. Does it have to be complicated for me or can I just collect AES home carts and be satisfied? Also, where can I send my Neo Geo (if I get one) to be modded with stereo sound and s-video without being ripped off? Thanks for reading this and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well the prices there are alittle expensive, i would recomend searching this forum and seeing if ne one has one up for sale, neo geo is not something to be rushed, if you wnat one nad you hvae the time and money to spend on one you will prevail. here is an example. i was looking for a neogeo and i thought to my self, whoa these are way to expensive. well i just happened to stumble across an awsome deal and i found a neo geo AV cable a controler and a game (base ball stars 2) all for only $200 and the guy (thirdkind) lives like 10 min from me. so take your time and look for a deal here on the forums i'm sure you will find some one w/ it. hey you might be suprised and the guy lives like 30 min. frfom ya, it happened to me

Let's see... where to start?
First of all, yes, get a Neo-Geo AES console. Second, all carts (regardless of region, Japanese, American, or European) are compatible with the system. One thing that you should know is that the home (or AES) carts are quite expensive, and the less common ones can go between $80-$200 (or more for even rarer games). The arcade (or MVS) carts are the types of carts used in the arcade (MVS) system. Due to the fact that they're more common to find, they tend to cost less than their home cart counterparts (yet they have all of the same features of the home carts). If you want to play arcade (or MVS) carts on a home system, you'll need a converter. !Arcade! sells them on their site: http://www.neogeousa.com
Additionally, you can send your Neo-Geo system to them, and they'll add a whole bunch of modifications (S-Video Adapter, debug BIOS chip, etc.) for a good price.
Sure, you could collect just AES carts and be happy, but you'll end up paying a lot more (and searching a lot harder) for the games you like and want (especially the rarer games). If you just simply want to play the games, get MVS carts. If you want to collect games that look nice (but cost a fortune), go with AES carts. It's your call. Besides, I'm sure one of the other board members will answer any other questions you have.

Do you like 2D games? The Neo-Geo is the system of choice if you do.

While going through the discussion boards here, I've noticed that owning a Neo Geo seems very complicated and I don't have a clue as to
what people are talking about.

Don't feel intimidated by any of it, Earthquake.

With people mentioning MVS carts and conversions, I just feel lost.

MVS (Multi Video System) carts are used in the upright Neo cabinets found in arcades.

Conversions are MVS carts made to work on the Neo-Geo home system. MVS carts are larger in size, but they will work on the home system if
converted. The process is lengthy, but you must remove the ROMS from the actual Arcade cartridge and soldier them to a home cartridge PCB (printed circuit board). So essentially, you're sacrificing a perfectly good home cartridge to play an unreleased MVS game on your Neo-Geo
home cartridge system. As you may have noticed by now, some people here don't approve of this.

here can I send my Neo Geo (if I get one) to be modded with stereo sound and s-video without being ripped off? Thanks for reading this and
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Visit www.neogeousa.com to have your system modded.

To be simple, let me ask you this: Do you want to play some of the greatest gams ever made? If so, then get that Neo. Yes, you can just buy AES carts and be happy. Also, I recommend !Arcade! for the mods. Try www.neogeousa.com They have GREAT service!

Thanks for the advice guys! Am I wrong in thinking that home AES carts are worth more than MVS carts? I'm a collector and I want the best possible quality I can get out of my games. Thanks again everyone and I hope that we will become good friends in the future!

Yes, buy a Neo Geo, Earthquake! I'm pretty new here myself and by corresponding with members on this forum you should have a Neo Geo for yourself in no time! I got a great deal from one of the sellers here and I should have my very own Neo Geo next week(I hope)!

Everyone here is very nice and I've even talked to one of the members here on the phone! What I'm saying here is that the members of these forums will do what they can to help you in your quest to own a NEO!
