I've always liked KOF '96 the best mainly because it has the team with Geese Howard on it. It has better music and a better story than the rest of those you mentioned. I've not played KOF 2000, so you might want to go with that.

I'd say 2000. The game play is wonderful and more responsive then 96 or 97, IMO. If not 2000, my next choice is 96. This has been discussed before and there are many MANY different opinions. For instance, I think 97 is one of the worst KOF's... people are gonna say "Hey TurfMasta, you suck the balls off a harry yack, you fuck. WTF are you thinking that 97 is the worst. Die!!" Or something to that effect. Hey, to each its own... Search for "Best KOF" (i think), that one may help.

Well I like '96 a lot but 2000 is also very cool. It is a tough call, flip a coin.

never played 2000, 96 is my 2nd fave KOF after 98, so i'd go with that. btw, i hate strikers so even if i'd played 2000 i'd still
probably say 96'.

i would say KOF'2000
not only becuz it is the latest but it is the best after KOF'98.

don't worry about the striker system becuz u will mostly be playing among your friends or alone. unlike like arcade, where u can't force anyone to choose Lily Kane as striker. (i m telling u this becuz we used to choose Lily Kane as striker when we play among our friends)

so, go for KOF2000, it is the future now becuz u will also develop your striker skills too which will be required in KOF2001.

i m not saying that KOF'96 and KOF'97 are bad. they are also good but consider buying them after KOF'2000

Out of the three you chose I say go with 2000.It's the latest of theseries, has many characters, great graphics,music..(I don't like the option to do infinities!but can be a
cool feature if you catch someone making a mistake! NOT! :/
The Strikers system is cool
The Striker's main purpose is to {DISTRACT
the opponent)not inflict TONS of damage!!
My personal favorite is KOF 95' but KOF 99' is trying to knock that aside like Real Bout 2 knocked RBFF to the side for me.

I'd look at 'em in this order:

'97
2K
'96

Granted, the difference in overall quality is miniscule in my opinion, but that's how I'd rate those three from the best one down.

No, get '96 and '97 first. Here is the reasoning:

1. Both are great games.
2. Both are relatively inexpensive. (MVS, right?)
3. Your KOF learning curve will be more natural than if you start on 2000.
4. And finally... after the months that it will take you chew and digest 96 and 97, 2000 will be at least a little bit cheaper!

Unless you are an absolute KOF junkie, avoid all pre-97 KOF's like the plague.
With that said, 97 and 2000 are both great, get both. If you can only afford one, then flip a coin.

I've only played '98 and 95 so I guess my opinion really doesn't mean much. Whatever you get homeslice enjoy it. I'm getting a copy of KOF2000 from NeoGeo2k2. I hope 2000 lives up to the hype I've heard.
