I've got the x68000 one, but haven't put a pi into it yet.

Then I've got a pi3 in one of those tiny SEGA Genesis USB hub cases. The power button actually works and lights up the Genny power LED. The volume dial slides but no function yet.

Lastly got a pi3 inside a classic DMG Gameboy with upgraded screen and shoulder buttons.

For my next one, I got an empty NeoGeo X docking station from eBay for 20 bucks. Should be a nice pi3 shell, but with so much room could add the board to do analog RGB out too.

That Genesis one looks great. I'd swap some Saturn black shells with the white ones to make it a theme.

all hdd's are corruptible.

it's a pi. it boots and runs off of an sd card. it's what it does. my retropie setup has a 128gb sd card. it holds everything that plays well on it. yes, i have a backup of the whole thing incase it crashes and burns, but there is no need for a whole hdd for it. also- where would you hook it up? at best you are running an external usb drive anyways. putting a hdd in a pi enclosure is just dumb.

Mainly, it's just cheap ass people recycling what they have so they don't have to special order a new SD card...which is funny, because after all that's said and done, it'll be cheaper to get a larger capacity SD card. There's a lot of fear mongering about counterfeit SD cards, which makes me think that this is why people do that. Yeah, that makes no sense, but I can't vouch for other people.

I'd imagine that it's slow as fuck with a hdd too compared to a fast SD card.

Stealth, these all look great. The Genny and Gameboy one's look so freakin cool. I have to get one of these retropie devices. Don't you have a first gen gameboy one as well?

Where did you manage to get the X68000 pi case by chance?

Those Game Boy and X68000 Pi cases look nice - time to recalibrate the thread with some more awfulness!

Thanks! Oh that DMG is a first gen gameboy with a Pi3 in it. I think you're referring to the other 2 first gen gameboys I posted a while back? Yeah for those one had the internals of a Gameboy Color and the other had the internals of a Gameboy Advance. Both had upgraded, lit color LCDs though.

Where did you manage to get the X68000 pi case by chance?

I won it via Japanese auction. I don't know how to get one directly, maybe BEEP shop? First time I saw it though was on a Japanese blog.

Can we merge this with the terrible MAME cab thread?

but seriously, I've seen so many cases similar to these come out of my University's "creative production lab"

Jesus this is awful. Like I haven't seen enough disgusting looking SNES consoles lol. Why the fuck do people paint them black? Let's add grilles and make it an awful RetroPie case! I hate it as much as I love the X68000 one :)

I think a lot of these are from kids who are 12-13 doing projects, this is just their start or they're just not cut out for it. Totally fine.

Totally different issue if it's adults doing stuff like that though.

I can see some kid doing it, in fact I can see myself doing something like that as a kid. I started building arcade sticks as a kid and I was just winging it for the most part.

That last one looks pretty cool actually - except I'm sure it weighs a goddamn ton.
