Shirow Masamune's Appleseed the Movie - NOW ON DVD! (Sweet)

EDIT - 5-10-05

Shirow Masamune's Appleseed has just been released in an absolutely beautiful, tin two disc DVD Set. It's possibly the nicest packaging i've ever seen for a CG or Animated film. Yes possibly even better than the Akira tin. And this fine film really deserves such a fine presentation. And now I won't have to withstand the questionable English Acting.

There are two version, 1 Normal, 1 with a Briareos figure

Appleseed (Limited Collector's Edition with Metal Case)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...4/103-8360498-8765438?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846

Appleseed (Limited Collector's Edition with Metal Case & Action Figure)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...4/103-8360498-8765438?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846

I haven't had time to view the DVD, but I probably will this weekend. (Finals... ughh)

Everyone should really check this out. It's really ace.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ = ORIGINAL

Anyone interested in seeing it? it's supposed to premiere in the States in limited release tommorow...

I'm going to try and see it this weekend hopefully.

FYI Appleseed is based off a Manga in the early 1980's by Shirow Masamune (Creator of Ghost in the Shell) there was a questionable anime in 1988, and this is a brand new CG venture with a rather unique look to it.

Appleseed Website:
www.appleseedthemovie.com

Quicktime Trailer (The one on the official site is Shockwave - BLEH - Get this one : )
http://www.apple.com/jp/quicktime/trailers/appleseed_large.html

I highly encourage everyone within these areas to see the film in a theater... But I know for some of you that might not be possible... In which case, there is already a Fansub of the Japanese DVD Appleseed release floating around...

I'm not sure if the American Release will be Subtitled or Dubbed with English Actors... I'm hoping subbed like Ghost in the Shell Innocence... but the trailer on that site has English Voice Acting... :oh_no:

It's pretty much only being shown along the coasts and in Chicago. We won't see it in Denver for a few more months :crying:

I got into the Boom Boom Satellites after the JP release of RRV. Fogbound is a really cool track.

I really wish they could have included the RRV intro in Ridge Racers, and the RRV soundtrack Fogbound in particular... Too bad though.

Soliloquy is badass as well.

I finally got to see Appleseed in theaters today, I wanted to see it at the theater nearest my apartment, (Century 20 Daly City) but it's not actually playing there yet.
I did however get downtown and see it at the "Lumiere" on California Street in San Francisco.

It was a great film, I could write pages on pages on it's positive merit... but simply put... It's great.

First things first, the movie IS DUBBED. :crying:

Terrible I know, but overall it wasn't a terribly bad work, with the exception of the actress who played Hitomi. Her voice is intollerable.... Really awful.

The lips seemed to match fairly well, but of course not as good as the Japanese counterparts.

The movie is INCREDIBLY like the manga, some scenes are SHOT for SHOT reproductions, and many dialogs are DIRECTLY WORD for WORD from the pages of Appleseed... Really amazing the visuals are stunning.. Shirow Masamune is god.

The only thing is that Deunan is CONSTANTLY shouting out "BRIAREOS!!!"
at points it doe's seem a bit much and is actually kind of funny... Wait till you see what I mean.. it's seems like it's all she says at times.

Here's the Poster from outside the theater:

If you want some backround info on Applesseed, but cant get to the manga in time to see it, this little page is a good for info.

Appleseed (the first one) is my favorite anime of all time.

I'll sure-as-shit be getting this one as soon as I find it on DVD. There's no way in hell this'll get shown around here.

This movie is bullshit LIE. The soundtrack (which has been available in stores for a few months now and is cheap, you should all buy it) and the animation quality are the only good things about it.

If you want something awesome in a metal case that's Japanese get The Yakuza Papers/Battles Without Honor and Humanity instead.

I was excited about it a week ago, because damn, it looks gorgeous.

Unfortunately, I've heard from many that it sucked.

Can't say I'm too surprised, the original bored me to death as well.

The manga is pretty fun.

One thing I gotta say that's good about how so much anime that comes out here now being totally horrendous, it makes me appreciate all the old manga Viz/Dark Horse/etc. published here in the late eighties and early nineties all the more as I go back to the comics that were often the direct inspiration for most of these animated shows.

actually there is plenty of action and fantastic animation, unfortunately there is also horrible Star Wars episode 2 type dialogue.

I still would like to see it. I liked the comic okay. The old OAV was horrible though. Easily one of the worst comic to movie transitions ever. You couldn't even call it an apaptation. What I've seen of the new one so far at least seems to resemble the comic's story.

For the record, I respectfully disagree with your opinon.

The reason I enjoy Appleseed so much is because i'm a huge Shirow Masamune geek, I devour everything he has ever created. Also for the most part this new film, is incredibly close to the manga's (Like I mentioned in my origninal review) sometimes word for word. I like that, and if you find an issue with the film's story, you can't blame the filmakers...only Masamune.

Shirow Masamune has regarded "Appleseed" as his life's work. Furthermore I believe he's still not done with it and plans to resume (or has already started) new chapters of it.

I hope he does a follow up to Apple Seed he stated long ago. That he plans for a a update but then GITS came up and, AS got put on the back burner :oh_no:

Any ways since.... Apple Seed is on DVD now i might check it out :spock:

PS:I hope it's better then the...... OVA it was such a poor "adaptation" of the manga
