Okay. Is that the real H0ffman or yet another "persona"?

Shinobi on Neo can't hurt, there's still loads of work to do, tho, judging from the vid.

Looks interesting. I would want to see more gameplay before forming an opinion.

I wonder if any enhancements are going to be implemented to take advantage of the Neo-Geo hardware? Or will it be just a straight up port?

Doubt it, it's just a straight port. The gameplay is surprisingly like shinobi I reckon

Very tempted to make a MVS cart conversion (using some bootleg) once it's done. This is a very good idea for a new port, for two reasons 1) The game's still surprisingly fun after all this time 2) gameplay's so tight any input lag basically kills it, so emulation can be tricky with this title.

Bro, Neo Geo. What else is there to understand?
Don't get me wrong. I'd have killed for a Shinobi game in the Neo Geo style like Super Dodgeball or Neo Bomberman. But this is not that.

Yes. the real HOffman - as in Amiga musician guru! It looks like he's flying through this conversion!
H0ffman did a really excellent conversion of Konami's Knightmare for the Amiga :D

I burned the cd and popped it into my Neo CD. I was expecting an average homebrew port that looked fine but had weird physics as most are, and instead this is damn near perfect. I don’t have a Shinobi board to compare but it feels the same as the Mister version on the same tv. The only things that betray you aren’t playing the original are the music starting a second late because you know cd, and there is a little scratchiness in some of the voice samples. I can’t believe how good a job this is.

Observations - will boot on a normal Neo SD MVS (non-pro) but after a few seconds of gameplay this happens (still plays music though). Plays through the attract sequence fine, just when you start a game and begin pressing buttons. Otherwise looks and sounds the part, and sounds like everyone else that has an SD Pro variant works fine. And yes, my SD cart and MVS are very clean and runs all other games just fine either off the SD or actual carts.

Was hoping a normal Neo SD would work rather than a pro...bit bummed as it would have been nice to have this on my Neo SD for rotation rather than hooking up my Shinobi PCB and having to mess with changing the button wires in my cab (these old Sega games flip the normal jump & shoot configuration).

It's reverse engineered you goob.

I'm hoping more people jump in on the trend, it would be nice to have MVS cartridges for things like Tiger Heli for my setup.

I've played a lot of the System 16 original, and the Neo port seems really accurate. Enough not to mess with my muscle memory, anyway. It sounds really accurate, too. Honestly, this is one of the best Neo releases in a while. Homebrew efforts are often lacking in the gameplay department, and this feels like the Shinobi I know and love. I can only hope that the porting process wasn't too daunting a task and we'll see more System 16 ports.

I for one wouldn't mind to see ports of Cotton, Golden Axe, Dynamite Dux or Altered Beast.

Should do arcade Shadow Dancer next. It's not as good as the Genesis version but the arcade original is still a good game, and it doesn't really have any good home versions. SMS version is crippled and the Genesis port is an entirely different game. Mame is the only real way to go unless you have an Amiga or Atari ST still hooked up.

Looking at the hardware specs alone, System 18 games should be possible as well, unless they're maxing out the PCM channels on Sega's system.

Just had a play up to bonus round - wow, it's pretty much 1:1 vs the original, he's done an amazing job converting it to work on the Neo Geo!
